Kunk- I don't mean this in any sort of douche-y smart ass way... but you live in NYC... why would you travel to Austin to see live music when there is already a ton of it in your back yard?

the venues here are meh, and I'd go because all my friends are and it would be a lot of fun. plus, i'm interested in the interactive portion of the event. NYC is overrated.

I read an article in the WSJ that said SXSW isn't even the cool thing to do anymore. They said its become too corporate...whatever that means. It seems there's another festival in Texas that has a more indie feel to it.

Bunch of dirty hippies if you ask me.

I normally play every year with my band. This year we didnt go, didnt submit. It is kind of becoming a joke (SXSW that is), we like Pitchfork here in Chicago instead. CMJ isnt too bad.

Austin City Limits?

It's very corporate. My co-worker is presently there and while she is enjoying the music, its mostly a learning experience on Web 2.0 from what I understand.

I've been trying to figure out when SXSW stopped being about under-heard or unsigned bands and became this whole other thing (web, marketing, ???)?

my friends go for web dev primarily. i'm ready for web 3.0 already. enough reflections already.

No and I was trying to find it through WSJ archives but I can't. This sounded like something that was new and undergound.

Jesus cock and balls. You learn something new every day. When I was involved in web stuff I knew about the SXSW that was related to media and design. Later I heard about the music festival of the same name. I had no idea they were one and the same. CRRRAAAZY!
