Edible arangements, while tasty, are also kind of a cop-out. The only thought that goes into them are "I'll take arrangement #7".

A collection of interesting groumet foods accumulated from a few sources and spanning a few brands (not like those big christmas baskets) is a much more interesting approach, IMO. Get some stuff at Dean & Deluca and then swing by the Union Square market to pick up some extra items.
