linen suit for daytime wedding..

i have a tan linen suit that i'd like to wear to a wedding next month and just want to hear what others might suggest to wear with it. right now im thinking about a white shirt and something a little more funky with the tie, but i haven't found the right one yet. for colors im thinking about some shade of orange and for pattern maybe paisley or polka dots. it might sound extreme, but i dont think it will come off that way.. at least not if i find the right tie. for shoes.. i am having another problem. essentially i do not own a pair of shoes to wear with this suit. i also don't have a small fortune to spend on shoes at the moment. so, im thinking under 200 dollars and maybe avoid lace-ups.. slip-ons and mocs fit much better in my closet. although for the right bargain, i could see myself getting a great pair of lace-ups. anyway.. thanks for the advice in advance.. oh.. and this is my first post, although ive been an avid reader since last year. btw, the suit jacket is cut very slim and short with a double vent. it has very square shoulders and two buttons. it's basically just a trendy piece that i picked up for fun in a recent trip to toronto.

You don't necessarily have to do a white shirt - a brightly colored shirt and tie combination with a linen suit looks great. As for shoes - how casual is the wedding - if it's extremely casual or a beach theme, you could probably get away with loafers or even (and I'll probably get flamed for this) leather flip-flops.

Not in your stated price range, but for styles one could choose http://www.bensilver.com/fs_stor....group=2 or http://www.bensilver.com/fs_stor....group=2 or http://www.bensilver.com/fs_stor....group=3 in tan. You could also go for any of http://www.bensilver.com/fs_storefro...t=114&show=264 if it's a less formal affair.

And well you should. I would suggest perhaps a soft pink shirt. Think pastels rather than brights. A seersucker tie might be nice. White bucks or spectators would set it off nicely. Don't forget the pocket square. In this case, silk or cotton, not linen.

its not going to be terribly formal, but i wouldn't say 'extremely casual'. its a daytime summery/springtime wedding and no mandatory dress code has been given. great suggstions so far everyone.. although i will have to pass on the flipflops... can't dance in flipflops.???

For shoes, Ralph Lauren offers a classic white buck (actually ivory) at $145 (full retail) and a tan and white saddle buck that might be even better with your tan linen suit for the same price. (I own the former, have flirted with acquiring the latter.)

An Emilio Pucci shirt with their house pattern should match the linen suit nicely.

For your shoes, how about a pair of Venetian mocs in tan like these from Ralph Lauren Polo?

i've not seen your color of "tan". But i'm going to agree that it is perfect. A wedding is not the occasion to go wild on the shirt color. Perfectly brilliant bright fine fabric white shirt with the tan would be very good.  Alternatively,  move to whatever pastel shade you prefer I'd go for light blue, or a medium strong pink. Get a semi-contrasting / matching tie.  Let the pattern in the weave, not the wild balloons or flowers in the print, do the work of dressing it up and distinguishing it, and you. I think you are correct to contentrat on the tie and the shoes for the items that will really set the tone. The suit is "what it is", not to knock it in any way - I'm having one made in tan linen that I expect to wear to just such an occasion. But, I really expect to make the suit outstanding by paring the great tie and shoes with it.
