Thanks for all the replies, I think I'm just going to give up on Linen till I can afford a decent one. I'm aiming now for a Madras. If my chest is 38.5" - 39" should I stick to a small instead of medium, probably going to Jcrew.com as there isn't one local except for the outlet 40 miles N that stocks mostly women s. Weight wise I'm around 156ish pounds 5'9"

A linen shirt is designed to be loose but, not baggy. Your shirt is just a bit too large! Don't be too quick to give up on linen...it can be a very cool, comfortable option during the upcoming summer months!

Linen is a fabric... But it certainly has a culture associated with it (relaxed, baggy, Miami comes to mind!) If one ignores the culture, and simply wishes to sport a lightweight, breathable, fashionable shirt for the summer, I would recommend they check out Strellson (Swiss company...some GREAT cuts, and fairly affordable) Even BOSS has some really nice linen slim shirts this season... Check it out!

I'm about your size but 10 pounds lighter with a smaller chest and I wear a jcrew small. The new linen shirts fit surprisingly well. I think a small would be perfect for you. If anything, you might want a tailor to shorten it by an inch, but it looks good OTR with a pair of shorts.

I was looking at a Jcrew Small Linen shirt, it was made in China said it was summer 08 so I don't think it's the nice Irish linen they have now, someone correct me if I am wrong please. I just wasn't sure about the measurements, they said the shirt was seam to seam 19.5" if pulled tight it would measure 21" so it may fit me or may just be a tad to small. I know I have some weird measurements, It's mainly from when I used to body build for a few years, then from there went to fat @ss status for a few years and now I'm running a more normal'ish weight.

Thanks for the link, I'll make sure to add that to my wish list and I'm looking for some button downs. Something a little different then wearing AA 2001org tees every day.
