Going to Japan - Page 11

I'd like two pair, one of dry selvage, one of linen cotton, both size 34. Can pay by paypal, of course. Thanks much. Will understand if this reaches you too late. Wading gingerly into the great Foreign Denim river, mack11211

pm sent this morning, but just in case- Assuming you have the space/time, I'll take a pair of selvage, waist size 36 (assuming they make-em that big there). J., thanks for your eternal patience and generosity.

I've got orders for about 11 pairs right now. I will be buying them tomorrow afternoon/evening and I'll probably just buy as many extra of the selvage pairs as I can stuff in the one bag I'm checking. Hopefully they haven't gone off sale price yet - they would go up to about $50. I think we'll be safe though.

Okay, I just finished lugging about 40 lbs. of jeans around Shinjuku and back. I hope you guys are happy. Shoreman, I hope to find you a pair of 36s tomorrow, as I couldn't find a pair today. The lengths the Uniqlo guy seemed to be going to to try to find some 36s would have astounded you though. Last night was crazy. I went out with a British guy and two Dutch guys from the hotel and we headed ostensibly for Shibuya and then Roppongi but by the time we made it onto the train we decided it was late enough to forego Shibuya and head straight to Roppongi. I just realized I really can't properly type. It's like I've forgotten how. It's hopeless to try to explain the night in prose right now but I will try to flesh this out tomorrow. I'll just outline it for now. 830-915pm- planning and drinking beer in hotel lobby. British guy is very particular vegetarian so he researched his options. 930- train to Roppongi, give up on Shibuya idea 1015- eat at Sicilia - miniscule veal w/ mild gorgonzola - took picture of cucumber salad. Writing all over all walls and every surface. My Sharpie had died so could not add our own graffiti. 1 drink here. 11?-Gas Panic, so the British guy "could say he had been there" - Canadian guys passing out on bar - One drink, boring - Nigerian guy on street genuinely tried to help us find a place to go and left us alone when he couldn't think of a place. Possibly the most odd thing that happened all night. (They typically claim anything to try to drag you into "their" club) ???-Mexican place- two drinks, very quiet, figuring out where to go - Canadian guys reappeared and continued drinking, passing out on bar again. 1 am - off toward club Yellow, far down Roppongi main street, excellent music and crowd, small basement place, dark, 3-4 drinks (weak, small G&T, moved on to dispenser beer @ 700 yen). Met pleasant but dumb sounding American guy toting two Japanese girls who spoke good English - American guy disappeared and girls tagged along with us. 3?4?am- back to Mexican place. British guy fading out rapidly. Was awoken by Dutchmen when found napping in the "loo". Girls tried to order a whole bottle of tequila, but luckily staff did not get the message - or were wise enough to quietly ignore request for the sake of keeping place in order. Salsa version of Volare by Dean Martin came on - girls very intrigued that I knew the words to the song (in Italian). 3-4 drinks here. 5?am- tried extremely loud club hawked by Nigerian guys for the hell of it. Drinks were ridiculously expensive. British guy claimed to have realized it was a brothel of sorts. I didn't see this. He may have become delusional by this point. Left immediately. 0 drinks here. 5?6?am- attempted to find falafel van that Slim, Johnny and I ate from last week. Van was closed so we found a "Parisian cafe" open 24 hours and went up. Beer, very expensive coffee and sandwiches were breakfast of choice. 1 drink, IMMSMC. 7?8?am- headed to station toward home. Charged J-girls with finding us a good restaurant to try eating fugu (poisonous blowfish sushi). Got their number and parted company. 9?10?am- back to hotel. Beers purchased on the way there. British guy had to check out by 10. Drank beer in lobby and compared passports. Dutch guys and others in lobby entertained by my exaggerated overpronunciation of their language. Various people keep handing me beers. Never a thought that drinking well into the daytime might be unwise. Discussed a possible future attempt to eat fugu while skydiving. 3? beers. 12pm-make cursory attempt to properly go to bed. 515pm- find self in room still wearing all clothes and shoes and probably with shoulder bag still on. Awake entirely unrefreshed and rather surprised at the time. Head to bakery for now-ritual morning donut. Eat donut and canned vending machine coffee in lobby with Dutch guys. Gave Dutch guys J-girls' number to attempt fugu excursion. 530pm- head out to Shinjuku Uniqlo. Tomorrow we check out and leave Japan at 9pm. Arrive Seattle 9pm same day. I will try to check in online tomorrow sometime.

I hope customs don't search your bags. And now for the important stuff: Did either Tokyo Slim or yourself get "Kancho"ed?

Ha. No... thank god. Although J did get REEEALY drunk the other night, I guess someone could have - he may not even remember it. My question is this; WHY do you know what Kancho is?.?.? Have a good time in Japan once? Tokyo

I brought back 13 pairs from Uniqlo - one each selvage, rinsed ring and linen/cotton for myself and then 10 other pairs for other people. I could not possibly have jammed more jeans in, unfortunately, so I guess I'll have to go back. I've decided that we need to open a shop here in Seattle that basically transplants all the cool stuff they have in the 100 shops in Ueno, Shinjuku and Shibuya, since there would be absolutely no competition and plenty of market for such a store here. It seems really wrong for example that Ueno alone has probably twice the amount of Levi's Premium stuff (made in the USA) of the entire west coast of the US. I want to recap the trip, but I'm kind of beat after not sleeping for about 54 hours or something, and then getting about 4 hours of sleep last night. I did just wash my selvage Uniqlos though and they are drying out on my balcony in the 100000 degree weather here. I'm going up to Whidbey Island (in the San Juans) with my family this weekend to decompress and laze, and also show off trip pictures and video, so you all will have to wait a bit for the jeans. I will try to get online from up there and write a proper update, and also upload pictures. For now I leave you with this: P.S. Honolulu Airport is the worst airport I have ever seen in my life. I'll add to the thread later. But seriously, that place needs to burn.

A taco slot, eh? This idea intrigues me... "J. went to Japan and all he got was this hilarious avatar."

LOL that is a funny pic....esp if you know what they were *trying* to say, a classic case of Japlish gone awry

But I liked Honolulu airport It was better than LAX anyways I'll PM you about my linen jeans; hopefully they were one of the lucky few that made it in your luggage.
