Looks and your physique have very little to do with it as long as you are not hideous. A senior partner at my firm went through a divorce and now goes out every night. I think he's dating around 7 or 8 women right now, at the same time, all half his age. He's not too slim and he's old, but he's really fucking confident.

come now, grey double breasted pins and fidoras, churchill was very much styled to his times, even in his old days in the end of the war

As far as hair, I think your best bet is short hair but maybe try growing it out slightly and getting away from spikes. Even 1/4" longer will still be very short but with some wax (or even sticking with gel) you'll get a less drastic / more classic / textured modern look. I agree with the comments about the gold watches and rings and bracelets. The main reason is you are not a "gold" person (in a color sense). You have fair skin and dark hair which would seem to point more strongly to silver. A silver watch won't contrast so much with your skin tone and look much less guido-y. The gold you're wearing stands out like a sore thumb. I like the glasses. I agree also with the criticisms of the tie knot. It's too big BUT you're a larger guy so don't wear a skinny tie knot. If you go with a smaller knot it will match your face and frame but the one you have in the pics is too big. Easily fixed. I didn't think the goatee looked bad but IMO you look better clean shaven. Oh, and smile once in a while. Being overweight and trying to pout just makes you look puffier. Edit: I also like the contrasting colors of the suit. The icy lavendar shirt and dark suit contrast just like your skin tone. It brings the eye to your face. I'd stick with icy contrasting colors.

could you give me an example of some other icy colors? not quite sure what you mean by that.

could you link a pic of the type hair your speaking of?

with that suit, my black belt is a gold buckle, could i just wear the gold watch and nothing else? i really cant afford another nice belt with a silver buckle ATM, or especially a dressier silver watch. right now i just wear this one and its an every day so its a little beat up http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...97&dcaid=17902

ive been keeping nmy eye on this one at my local jewelery store for a dress watch http://www.graphicice.com/index.php/...emID/362772058 (it looks better in person)

I think both look very feminine. If you are a fan of Seiko, check out this thread.

Pure white (not ivory or yellowish white), black, true grays (not yellowish or blue), navy blue, royal blue, true blue, clear/sharp burgundy or red (not muted or brownish or rust), emerald green, forest green, lemon yellow (no gold), purples, etc...

Icy colors are clear and sharp, not muted or rusty or gold, tans or browns. Although, you might be able to get away with some browns as you seem to be a slight mix of tones.

If you're interested in learning more about color, this book is only $.01 and you can't go wrong. Flusser's Dressing the Man is also a fabulous book. There are many other books of course.

What colors do you feel best in? You probably already intuitively know what they are. Do you like Charcoal, navy blue, burgundy, royal blue, purple, pure white? Possibly, browns, khaki, forest/olive green?

Maybe something like this: Example Notice the styling tips.

Or this:

It seems a little softer and maybe more stylish? This is just my opinion of course.

A belt really needn't be that expensive. $30 - $40 maybe? Buy what you like as the choice of watch / buckle is up to you, I'm just suggesting silver as opposed to gold.

I got on this post late, but dude -- are you seriously 5'9" 210lbs ? Based on those pics that doesn't look anywhere near 210...

1. You look heavy. I don't know if you work out or not, but I would assume you don't. In several of the pics your posture does not look great and you are beginning to get close to double chin territory. I am not trying to beat up on you- just giving you my honest opinion. It couldn't hurt to either up the exercise or clean up the diet. 2. The facial hair is not doing you any favors. Obviously I am not alone here in saying instead of looking hip, you look creepy. Maybe in 1997 that was a hip thing to have, but I don't think you are pulling it off and I don't really feel it is "in style". 3. Your hair looks greasy to me. Go to a decent barber shop or stylist. Even if you go one time to a more expensive place they can point you in the right direction in terms of what products to use. Just by looking at these pics I would scale back the use of product and use a smaller amount of pommade to provide a little volume-- that's enough. I don't feel the wet look is in. 4. Not a fan of any of the jewelry. Again, I don't want to sound like a prick, but obviously the other guys feel similar to me. I strongly dislike most gold jewelry. Lose the bracelet. Lose the necklace. Unless the watch has sentimental value I would consider something more classic. 5. Clothes. Much like the watch and the Goatee, I am not a fan. That weird Regis on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire style makes you look dated. You could look a lot better IMHO and spend a minimal amount of money. I may get shat on by the SFers by saying this, but look at Landsend or something-- you could by a plain white or blue dress shirt that would be an improvement. Get a classic conservative tie that isn't so loud. Ask yourself is this something a Kennedy/James Bond/etc. [insert stylish icon] would wear? If not, then don't wear it. (for the record, neither James Bond or JFK would wear anything you are wearing. 6. Try smiling. You look creepy.

On the plus side, you have good skin and non-bushy eyebrows. Though you should focus on growing out your hair, definitely including your sideburns.

The facial hair wasn't terrible either, but just keep it gone until you finish your look.
