This one is really awful. I know it's cool to post "OMG THIS UPDATE SUCKS" in your status every time one occurs, but this time it truly blows.

Seems like they're trying to out-twit twitter...

Some recent status updates: ..Facebook needs to hire some User Interface design people that actually know what they're doing. ..damn you new facebook, where is everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is annoying:@ ..can't believe that Facebook managed to get even LESS user-friendly. Argh! ..WTF happened to Facebook?! :S

It looks to me like they put a bit of time into overlay/density analysis and designed accordingly. They could have introduced it a bit better (e.g., progressive changes, opt-in beta testing, more float-overs or explainations of whats changed) - but I think its an improvement over the last interface. Expect to see more "smart" (read:annoying) ads inserted into the columns. They realized that nobody paid attention to the right hand side of the screen. So they've put "real" content throughout the whole page - and will interspurse ads everywhere. Can't wait for the techcrunch boobs to claim the UI change has resulted in new market share growth (as proved by a simple google trends report). The last time they made the claim they convienently forgot that the nation produced more unemployment in a shorter period than anyone can recall. And those folks rushed to social media sites to network and connect with people.

They've made it harder to follow threaded conversations.

I'm surprised they haven't given people the ability to swap panels on the page to make it more user friendly in a personal way, ala google home page.
