Who owns a dinner jacket (ownership of white tie or morning coat included in the count). How often to you need one? Did you start wearing a DJ more often after you purchased one (looking for/creating occasions to wear it)? Mathieu

I own two: a double-breasted black tuxedo and a tuxedo with a white peak lapel dinner jacket. Ideally I'd have a black, single-breasted, one button, peak lapel jacket, but economic limitations won't allow it. I bought both of them my freshman year of college (i.e. ~3 years ago) for the purpose of having something to wear for our semiannual formal events, and that's basically what I've used them for. I haven't been to a wedding or a black tie function, and won't in the forseeable future, but it's nice to be ready when the time comes. Too many people put it off until they absolutely need one and end up panicking and renting a crappy tux or paying too much for one just because it's what's available in stores. I haven't found any excuses to wear a tuxedo where I otherwise wouldn't, although lately I've been tempted to cross over to the dark side and try the white dinner jacket with jeans look during the summer.

I have two tuxedo's and a white tie outfit. Once a year I have to wear the White Tie and about 3 times a year the tux.

Have three tuxedos and a rocking green velvet dj that I had made on Queen St in Edinburgh.

Two djs, black SB and midnight blue db, and a velevet smoking.

I don't have enough money to own one. I would only wear it about 3 times a year though. A tux? Maybe once. I want to get a velvet cigar jacket, though. A black one with a touch of crimson on it would be one of the coolest things ever.

in 12 yrs since my highschool graduation ball (australian for prom) i have only had occassion where i have needed one - so no, i dont own one. i cant foresee that need changing - other than on my wedding day when i will probably buy one that comes out with about the same regularity as the past decade has seen

Both were $150-175 each on eBay, which would be about ~10% of their original retail price. It's a lot harder to get good buys like that these days.

Is it true that 75 % of the members own at least one? Or are owners more likely to respond, thus biasing the survey?

I would at least expect to see proportionally more members of the styleforum owning a tux than non-members. Sometimes i think we are all a bit too obsessed. I've seen a nice tux on virtualclotheshorse. Unfortunately I don't have a CC

I don't have one. I don't think I'll ever wear one here (never wore a jacket in 10 months I spent here). But I wonder if I should get one before I leave or wait until I need it and pay more for RTW than I'd get here bespoke. I have had one suit made and will have more made: not to wear here, stacking up before I leave. Mathieu

That's why I asked if others had/needed one.
