Quarter-lined Dinner Jacket: a Stroke of Stupidity or Genius?

I'd like to order a double-breasted mohair dinner jacket in the near future. Does it make no sense whatsoever to have it quarter-lined, or would it be a clever way of making the jacket more comfortable in the warmer seasons?

I have a feeling the answer is one or the other, and not anywhere in between.

why not? Really, what is lining for other than warmth and keeping it from catching on your sleeves?

IMO a good idea.

I had my tux made w/ quarter lining. Makes sense for me as I end up wearing it most often in the summer months (work slows down a bit, charity events in the Hamptons, free event tickets from clients). Also, I love to dance and this helps with movement (or so I've convinced myself) and perspiration.

I guess my only concern would be that a quarter lined jacket, depending on the fabric weight and cut of the jacket could potentially translate what one is wearing underneath, specifically braces.

Probably not a big concern, but I thought I'd through it out there.

I don't know if I would go as far as genius, but it does sound a pretty good idea, even in cooler weather it often gets pretty hot at balls/big functions due to overheating and the sheer number of people, particularly if you are dancing.

An ermazine lining...which is an option for you if you get a bespoke dinner suit...

1. Weighs hardly anything.

2. If in a dark color will shield the back of your DB jacket from showing the white shirt underneath in certain light.

3. If you are sweating, it will serve as a wicking layer and also reduce the chance of sweating through spots of your jacket.

If you are going to be wearing it outside at night a lot because you wait tables at a posh UWS "eatery," then maybe losing the lining will help your shirt catch more breeze. Indoors, however, there is seldom any breeze unless you work as one of those wind tunnel free fall carney ride operators.

Don't know yet. But for simplicity's sake, I thought I'd pick something from Harrison's Cape Kid book since I know Rubinacci can get it and I'm no where near Naples nor returning any time soon.

Nothing to do with the original question (I can't tell you anything about that besides that it makes sense to me that the jacket should be cooler; it has been hot at the balls I attended), but do you think about a black or midnight blue one?
