Shirt Alterations Shop in East 20s of Manhattan...

Many months (years?) ago, someone here referred to a spot in the East 20s (I think) of Manhattan that specializes in shirt alterations. I have a friend who has 6 T Pink shirts that he wants altered the same way - taper the body and slim down the arms. As I recall, this shop is very well priced and specializes in shirts; specifically, they mark up one shirt and make the same changes to the other.

I'd send him to Cardolino, but this other option may be better for him. If only I could recall the name.

Any help is much appreciated!

Not on the east-side, but Allmeier at 109 W. 24th Street only handles shirt alterations.

I had them shorten the sleeves on numerous OTR dress shirts and they have always done a tremendous job.

I believe I paid approx. $15 a shirt.

This is also on the west side but if it's convenient for you, make the trip. Michael is pleasant to deal with and I am very pleased with the work. I had him slim the arms and taper the body on some shirts and put darts in some others.

I just popped in there today. They seemed real nice and I may bring them a few old shirts to try slimming the sides. They said $12.50 for darts, $15 to take in the sides, $20 if the arms needed re-setting.

btw, here are the brands of shirts I have, in approx. order of nicety - would you skip alterations on any of these brands as a bad investment of $15-20?

I wouldn't skip on any shirts that you like.

I went to Shirtmaven's shop yesterday - He's a very nice man to work with, and it's a much nicer and more organized shop than Allmeier, fwtw.

I am weeding through the cheaper shirts I own, and getting the halfway passable things altered....I went through my Brooks Brothers shirts last night....I have 16 in all (gulp), but only 2 have been worn.

Of the remaining 14 about 8 or 9 are non-iron shirts. All 14 have their price tags still attached (some still in plastic wrap). I know they'll all be huge without tailoring (size 17 necks and one 17.5 I must have accidentally bought), and I goofed and bought one or two spread collars before realizing that look is a no-no for my chubby face.

The wife suggested I waltz into BB with my armload of 14 shirts and get a refund or at least store credit...the tag values add up to about $1200....would you folks take that route and just go custom shirt? i am hoping i can get $ back, and not just store credit - all of BB stuff I've bought (suits, sweaters, sport coats, etc) is very nice but too roomy and big for my tastes.
