A good review of the anti-salt literature here: http://www.foodandhealth.com/cpecourses/SaltCPE.doc There is some evidence that high sodium intake has direct effects on things like cerebrovascular disease, in addition to the indirect effects mediated by hypertension.

I read a few articles a little while ago about how it can make asthma worse. I'm not sure if it's exclusive to exercise induced asthma, or all kinds of asthma.

I love salt, and I remember reading an article saying that you can add salt to your food to taste, as long as you are not consuming processed food, your sodium levels should be fine.
