I don't know THAT much about hip-hop, but unless you've heard these guys you don't have a word to say about hip-hop.

And it's not just the more artsy stuff that is good either, Illmatic by Nas is essential listening and Wu-Tang's 36 Chambers is as well.

Hip-hop is an absolutely amazing genre which I'm currently trying to become more well versed in. What the hell are you doing in this thread?

is this the "im white but i know so much about hip hop" time?

Speaking of snap, schooled, hip-hop and white. I'll put on "The Power" 45 or "Saturday Night! - The Album" LP for socializing purposes.

Anything by Jackie Mitoo, Harry J Allstars, Booker T. Or the less heralded Party Down by Little Beaver!

No. I know a decent amount about classical and a decent amount about IDM, but I'm just starting to scratch the surface of hip-hop. I just used to be of the opinion it was mostly pretty bad myself until I actually started listening to it and was proven EXTREMELY wrong.

considering the way how you talk to others in an internet forum you should´t give any advice about socializing in real life ..

First, thanks for all the suggestions so far. So besides Edith Piaf who are some good French jazz singers from that era?
