Somehow I know you are not referring to the vibrant culture of sixties Jamaican music that frequently includes dub and rocksteady. Somehow I know you are referring to the despicable, intellectually and artistically bankrupt realm of "ska" that is the purview of hideous fratboys and useless cannabis burnouts. Somehow I know that if we ever met I would dislike you. Intensely. Somehow.

+1 on Gotan Project.

If you want a chill/mod theme, I like to use The Field.

A brooding, yet stylish atmosphere calls for Burial or The Bug.

Go look at soundtracks for sexy TV shows/movies. Nip/Tuck soundtracks have a lot of Gotan Project on them.

A fun vibe can be Cut Copy, Hot Chip, MGMT, VHS or Beta, etc.

Im interested in the answers that get posted for the OP's ideas for "Hampton's" vibe music. (Vampire Weekend and Rooney??) haha

How about music for drinking at night on a tropical beach shore? (Ill need this soon!)

I like late 50's Blue Note jazz with the more upbeat tempo. It makes for perfect "cocktail" music.

Maybe you are kidding?

I think Klezmer is great sociable music, especially mdoern interpretations. I saw a wonderful 8-piece klezmer band from Iceland called Storveite Nix Nolte which got even the shittiest jaded hipsters dancing.

So Called is a Canadian artist who does these hip hop/klezmer pastiches (seriously - and they don't suck)

A lot of John Zorn's Klezmer stuff from his Tzadik label is well worth a listen.
