I usually wear pants that measure 15.5-16 across the waist, but when I take a string and wrap it close to where the pants sit, it measure 34. What explains this discrepancy? For reference, 15.5-16 is a comfortable fit with room to spare, I am not just wearing the wrong size.

I'm basically the same size in both regards. I think it is because the front of the pants droops downward meaning it's actually longer across than 16" if you pull it tight, then you may find that the measurement is closer to 17". Curious to hear the answer as well from someone who can confirm though.

Sorry for the double post, seems my edit to the previous one didn't take confused.gif

I'm looking for a quilted jacket. Something like this one, but not almost $500:
T by Alexander Wang quilted bomber

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Or perhaps like the Belstaff one on Mr. Porter. I like it as well though not as much.

I'll edit this post too... after seeing the two together, only something like the top one could ever satisfy me inlove.gif

Need a rec for a pair of black non-wingtip oxfords that can work in a more casual 9-5 work environment (jeans and khakis) Thanks!

Guys, any recommendations for a winter coat and jacket to go with jeans and sneakers when it gets cold?

Btw does anyone know the jacket Rudy from misfits wears? http://seriesaddict.fr/images/galerie/Misfits/promo3x5/Kelly-et-Rudy-Misfits-3x04.jpg

ps: budget is a problem as im still a student.. no ro sneakers and etc pls..just wanna know what other options i hv other than the usual brands..
I grabbed a filson 256 my senior year. Great bag but not the most comfortable when its heavily loaded. If you're carrying laptop + books, look elsewhere.

Cheap sneaks = Chucks, Pro-Keds, randomly some good stuff goes on sale on Gilt (Hunter high tops).

Clarks DB don't handle wet weather well. I don't like boat shoes or loafers but that's just imo.

And 2. How do you raise your fashion I.Q.? Is there a basic book of fashion help that got you guys along?

1. How many pants as a minimum is such a personal question. I'd go with 2 jeans (blue/black) and however many chinos you want. Navy, black, khaki, and gray are all easy to co-ordinate with. This is for casual and maybe biz casual wear of course.
2. Just keep an open eye. Browse the WAYWT thread. If you're looking for something in particular, there are specialty threads like the leather jacket and baller sneaks threads. Go through lookbooks and see what catches your eye and figure out why. Tres Bien Shop puts together their own, GQ has a lot of designer released ones.

Are you looking for legitimate hiking boots or simply moutnain boots for the city? Also, you can stick red laces in any shoe. While not my style, people seem to be enjoying these new Danner mountain lights. Por example: http://www.epauletshop.com/servlet/the-1266/Danner-Mountain-Light-Lownsdale/Detail

Looking for something modern, darker in color, fairly lightweight, I guess kinda in between a shirt and jacket. Also, under $100 would be great.

Kinda depends on your body type and whether or not you like the brown collar on it, but this is a decent jacket for $88. I have the same jacket (but in khaki) and like it quite a bit.

Barbour makes quilted jackets. My friend has the Liddesdall in navy and it's nice.

Hey, quick question: What are acceptable winter hats for everyday streetwear? I'm a first year college student and I want to try to avoid anything that might seem too pretentious or grown-up. So...Beanies? Slouch Beanies? Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

On a serious note if you just want to blend in with the student body just get the beanie with school name on it
