I was also looking for the jacket for this winter.

Thanks for the heads up on the spiewak at Nordstrom. I think the closest store is 2.5 hours away that carries these.

I also posted this jacket to another board and got laughed at for being the "ugliest jacket."

That was not a clothing forum though and I think the people there were thinking of a lot higher age level.

One of the gobi jackets (black or sand probably).

I just wanted a nice jacket (college student here). The laughs brought me to looking at the spiewak at a fraction of the cost. What are your opinions on the parajumpers gobi (always good to get a perspective out of a clothing forum)? I did e-mail them on where I could find a retailer and haven't even gotten a response. Looks like they have very poor customer service though.

I'm also in college. That resembles a cheap Hollister or Abercrombie jacket IMHO. Your stipulating you want a nice jacket but your acting like your on a limited budget saying your a college student. Why in the world would you spend $800 on a nylon and fur jacket then? For that price you can get a BADASS MTM leather jacket and it would be cheaper. If that's not your style, I'd still say to go with something different.

Have any links to some nice ones? I am just starting to build a higher end wardrobe for myself.

I'll pay 800$ if it's extremely nice. I only grew about 3/4" in the last 2 years so I should be alright on buying an expensive jacket.

edit: I also checked out some of the mackage coats. They looked pretty decent but pictures are sometimes hard to tell from. There are really no stores aside from hours drive time to find a higher end store to shop in. Internet all the way ha ha.

Somebody on here once told me that you'll get the most use and bang for your buck from shoes and outerwear. I stand by that statement too.

You say your building your wardrobe, what are you working with? What kind of style are you going for? You might want to improve on other things before jumping the gun on a SUPER nice jacket. It will just look sloppy and out of place if you're pairing it with cheap, saggy American Eagle jeans.....

That's what I have now is American Eagle jeans (pretty much the only thing in the mall here aside from JC penny and sears product). I wanted to order some 3-4 pair of true religion jeans but I think jeans are something that I need to make the drive to the mall of america (closest retailer) to try them on. Might be difficult ordering over the internet with jeans and then shipping half of them back. You know how that'd go. What I was basically looking to get was nice jeans and shoes. I do need a jacket for this winter (I don't have one right now). It gets below 0 degrees here at times. All I wear are jeans and a pair of nike air max+ (which are amazing). Might just order a second pair of those instead.

The prada I had above I think I wanted only because of the name but thanks for the tips on the other, less expensive brands. But are they really that much better or the name brings the tag?

^^Mall of America clothes shopping kinda sucks, sorry. And I think if you get TR jeans, you probably regret them within 3-4 months of your purchase.

What style of jacket are you looking for exactly? Toggle Coat? Hooded bomber?

If you don't wanna look into online stuff a mall brand with decent outerwear this season is Express. Everything else there is pretty abortive though.

Really? What do you recommend? Rock and Republic any good? I had to google images your descriptions for coats. I don't really like the pea coat / wool coats that much. I don't really want a long coat either. "Hooded bomber" had a variety of different images for it. I don't know if an expensive leather coat is what I should have either. Nobody my age wears leather coats. Maybe just because of high prices? I guess I was looking for something nice that isn't a long jacket or the wool / pea coat looking jackets. I'm sorry I can't explain this very well but I don't know many brands or terms for style jackets. I guess the spiewak carson field is maybe the style I was going for. I may end up just grabbing one of those or north face even? Just checked out express (thanks). I always thought the wool jackets were always the long pea coat jackets. This one is pretty nice looking: http://www.express.com/catalog/produ...bCategoryId=97

I actually bought this jacket and I'm impressed: http://www.express.com/catalog/produ...bCategoryId=97 Very warm. Of course I bought it for $100
smile.gif
It started at $200, had 30% sale, then I had additional 30% off coupon. I'm young too and I know what you mean looking out of place or to formal, I think this works. Personally I'd avoid NF too unless you want to look completely nondescript from everyone else.

Very nice, I looked at that one as well. Looks like the fur can be removed as well from the last pic.

I may buy that one. The spiewak carson field is nice too for a little less but doesn't appear heavy enough for really cold weather. That one you have looks like it'd work.

Thanks. I'll probably order that one. When did you get the sale? Do they offer discounts often?

And what is NF?

I'm pretty sure it'll be warmer. It seems they jumped the base price by $50 since I looked at it, and they recently ended a 30% off sale. I think you can get a first time customer deal, sign up for their email or just google "express coupon codes". You should be able to get it for under $200.

Well my jeans aren't "premium/artisan" denim but they are flattering fits for me, just not the best quality brands. That's why I figured I would get something a little more casual like a nylon jacket or still maybe something waxed cotton or wool or the like if it still had a more laid-back look. That way, I was going to try to grab the peacoat on sale a little father into the winter and could wear that when I was doing sweaters, BDs, etc. as my top layers. You saw the Spiewak I posted in the quick questions thread and I feel like that may be the answer but I feel like the fact that I don't know it's the right jacket means I could still find something better. Plus unfortunately, it's going to take both of us a bit of time before our wardrobes are "SF approved" but it's hitting 40 degrees a lot of days in Pittsburgh already and I need a jacket NOW! lol

NF = North Face. North Face = Crap.

And as for that sale Express ran 30% off all outerwear for a week like 2 weeks ago but I was broke as a joke so I couldn't jump on it. Hoping they'll do it again because now that I look at it I really dig that coated bomber Punisher grabbed. Though not sure where he got the other 30% either.

Gitzo, it looks like using the code: 3779 for a 20% discount is the best you can do for now. I'd buy it at that price. Also, NF= North Face= terrible ****

Yea, I googled that one up. I do need a jacket. I didn't really want NF anyhow (local gear). 95% of the people have it.

I think I'll take advantage of the 20% code and grab the jacket you have. Looks really nice.

Thanks!

Yeah man NF only belongs on the slopes and most skiiers don't dig anything they've made for the past few years for that either. I dig the bomber but $200 even with the discount is pretty rough for my budget as I just quit my job and am pretty broke. May have to keep lurking

Cool, I think I'll go with that jacket. It never was explained why I wouldn't like true religion jeans after 3-4 months? Another better brand out there?

I appreciate the feedback.
