Help me find an exercise machine - Page 3

Ergometer!

Rowing is the best of all worlds! Best form of cardio ever. Get trim, do your cardio and build muscle at the same time.

Plus, depending on the Erg, they're cheap. Used machines are easy to find for about $100 too (Concept II).

Fluid Ergs give better resistance than air, but can be expensive:

I do HIIT cardio on stationery bikes. Half an hour of hard riding will leave you drenched in sweat. I also burn about 175 cals in 30 mins or so. Rowing machines are great as well. I run infrequently as I'm worried about wrecking my knees.

This machine has no moving parts (unless you're the one moving it)

You should look into burpee conditioning, Conn.

Stationary bikes grind knees into dust. Yeah, running has a higher risk of meniscus tears and such but at least you'll have ligaments left to hold your knees together. 175kcal in 30 minutes? You're riding at 90 watts? That's seriously sad. Most professionals will sustain 400 watts for an hour or so. In re: rowing: I like it. I wouldn't say it'll build a lot of muscle, but it's a good form of cardio if your 500m times are 2:00 or under.

It's cardio. Of course it won't build a lot of muscle.
