Smart Casual Dress Code

Would this be the same as "Semi-Formal"? I'm going to a restaurant and the dress code is "Smart Casual". I know it probably means no jeans/ sneakers but does it involve wearing a tie? Advice appreciated. Thanks.

I would put it on par w/ business casual. Tie probably isn't required.

+1. Sounds like business casual to me.

Yeah, suit pants/slacks, business shoes, and collared shirt ought to win the day for you. I would bring a coat but it's not required.

If its a restaurant I'm starting to learn that although they say smart casual they really mean "you can basically wear whatever you want".

I recently went to the Oval Room here in Washington D.C., the Washingtonian put this restaurant in the top 10 of Washington's best restaurants. Business Casual/Smart Casual is what is recommended, but I get in there an there are people wearing denim (black jeans..but still)...one guy came in wearing a t-shirt and slacks.

Savages.
