McSorley's Ale House - Winner, most saw dust
The Ear Inn - Oldest bar in NY
Chumley's - If you can find it
PJ Clarke's - Great bathroom
White Horse Tavern - where Dylan Thomas drank himself to death, now you can too!
Corner Bistro - for the burgers, mmmmm.

I assume you mean the PJ's in the East 50's the one in the w. 60's is meh and the food is somehow much much worse. I thought McSorley's was older than Ear?

Ear Inn is supposed to be haunted. C.Bistro is so crowded on weekends. If you go, go around noon time.

Thanks everyone, this is some good information I'll have to check out. My itinerary is unfolding before my eyes.

I'm staying with a girl I know there, so I'm not too worried about picking up chicks, but I do always appreciate eye candy and being an optimist can't rule out certain possibilities.

Has anyone heard of a place called pianos? A friend of mine said she liked it. According to their website, the rosewood thieves will be there friday, which is a great sign.

Again, thanks.

If it is not too much trouble, report back what you ended up doing.

Pianos is a divey kind of bar on the Lower East Side. It has the kind of hipster, slightly grungy vibe that you find with a lot of bars in the area. Just depends on if that is what you are looking for.

The good thing about going somewhere like that is there is plenty to do in the area. You can eat somewhere like Falai, Alias, Inoteca, Kuma Inn, Bacaro. Have drinks at Allen & Delancey, Macundo, etc etc.

I'll be in NYC from the 14th-19th, living in a friends apartment off fifth. If any of you are local and want to meet up, PM me!

Mr. Prufrock:

A Buckeye are you? I hope you enjoy your stay here.

I do suggest you leave the morning coat and tie pin at home. It does not quite fit the LES scene, especially if you are looking for the mermaids to sing unto you.

What you're saying is true, but it's hard to define those places. Most places are subject to the "call over" effect when it has more than 50% girls. I've seen it time and time again when a spot is packed with hot women at midnight. All the guys start calling & mass texting their B&T guys friends that are probably pumping iron at the gym or injecting themselves with steroids waiting for the call. After they finish popping their collars and spiking up their hair with gel, they'll overrun the place hitting on every chick that doesn't have a guy glued to them by 2am. By 3am, every chick gets scared off after being hit on 10 times within an hour.

And Yes, I've even seen manhattaner's calling over dozens of B&T muscle head, slam dancing guys to overrun a place that was formerly a low-key place filled with cute chicks.

For this reason, the best places are the ones with little or no cellphone reception.

The key is to go places that don't let the B&T in the door.

Yeah I remember walking by some LES places (Libation I think) that had a line of B&T looking guys that were absolutely not being let in. I was going to meet friends already inside that had a table and I got right in. Who knows maybe I would have been waiting in that line too.

I thought that place closed years ago. That is not the best example of a place that is no B&T allowed.
