Anybody like the new U2 album "No Line on the Horizon" - Page 3

I bought the recently released remastered Joshua Tree album feel that U2 peaked after JT with Actung Baby, Zooropa, and Pop.

I listened to the new album in a store and did not buy it (a first for me). I never hesitated before. I may need to listen to it again. Its not getting much air time on the local radio stations.

How is it selling in the US and EU?

I am a mild U2 fan (mostly of the Edge), but the new single "Take off your boots" is all I've heard, and I thought it was god awful. Reminded me of the new AC/DC album (not that they were ever that great) they just sounded like tired old men with no new ideas. Is the rest of the album the same?

Dunno, haven't heard the whole thing. I agree, they fell off, but it's excusable b/c it happens to everybody. I remember having this argument with a friend (and this may warrant its own thread): name me a single artist who was consistently great - no weak albums - for more than a decade running. I don't think any of the usual suspects (Beatles, Dylan, Stones, Kinks, Who, Stevie, Prince, Bruce, Bowie, Moz, etc) qualify. Plenty of people fell off for a bit and then got it back together, though; U2 still has time. The fact that their new stuff is bland doesn't make me love 'Bad' or 'Mysterious Ways' or 'Zooropa' any less.

I like some of the new album (why do I still call them albums?) and I think that the songs come off very good live (better than on the CD). I think they were great on David Letterman and still a powerful band. Still better than a lot of the crap out there.

I'm not as big a fan as I used to be but this is one group whose CDs I buy without question. Their concerts are great (I've seen them a couple of times) and I'd go see this tour as well. Although, I think I'll go see Moz and Kings of Leon first...
