Yeah, sure. If you are used to doing nothing, any exercise is going to produce decent results. Not quite sure I buy the static contractions (flex and hold), but hell what do I know I'm a 120 lb weakling

I'll go ahead and tell you what I tell everyone...I love burpees! I can do 1 set of 100 now!

@_@ That's crazy! Are you doing them at 100% speed? Now I'm really questioning my burpee ability. Maybe I'm tiring myself out quicker by going down into the 'down' pushup position before popping up.

I do them as fast as I can, so pretty fast at first, but of course once I get past say 25, it's a struggle and I slow down. I also don't include pushups with them, that would tire me out before 20 reps. I'd cut out the pushups. I can do about 65 pushups on my best day, but if I incorporate them into my burpees I'd be lucky to hit 15 or 20. Like pullups, burpees are easy to improve on quickly, just gotta keep with it. My goal is to be able to do descending sets starting with 20. One set 20 reps, next set 19 reps, all the way down to 0 for a total of 210 reps (without rest between sets!). I hear that's the only way to get respect in prison without having to kill someone. Not that I intend or plan on going to prison, but I figure a prison gang fitness test is a pretty good standard to go by. Also, I'm 5'6 and ~120 lbs so I don't have a lot of weight to deal with here anyway. I'm pretty weak compared to just about everyone else, but incredibly strong for having the small frame I have, if that makes any sense at all. edit: A coworker was in the military, and as punishment he said his drill instructor would have them do burpees for 3 hours straight. They call them bodybuilders though. Doing 100 in 5 minutes feels like it's going to kill me, I can't even imagine 3 hours!

http://scoobysworkshop.com/ is the best site I can find for getting in shape. Check out his beginning workout and six-pack abs. I wouldn't cut out push-ups. They're a fantastic workout for triceps and pecs. Form is very important, not just a huge amount of repetition if you're doing them too fast.

I often do a set of 50 burpees as a finisher to a workout. I get about 20 in a row, then break them down in more manageable numbers. My fastest time is 5:07 and I do the push-up and the jump at the end. I thought that was part of the burpee.

It's not like it's hard to get the form right on a burpee. As I said before, I don't include the pushup. So why is it so hard to believe? 100 burpees isn't that great a feat of strength believe it or not. The fact that most people are so out of shape they can't do 5 doesn't change that.

If you're not doing the pushup, then isn't it technically not a burpee? The pushup is where a lot of the difficulty is.

I can absolutely believe 100 "burpees" without the push-up part. That's the most tiring part.

javyn - what's the rationale behind cutting out the push-up? I'd think you'd get a much more complete workout with 30 proper burpees than 100 w/o push-up ?

What you guys think. Think it would produce decent results? The exercises they tell you to do are more towards the bottom.

Towley,

From this and your other thread it seems like you're having trouble putting a decent workout together.

TBH this "lazy man's workout" article looks so inconsistent and poorly organized that I doubt it'll do you any good. Like what other people said, bad as gyms can get, as long as you can access an oly bar and 150 kg of weight plates you'll be able to get yourself in decent shape. If even that's not possible, I'd invest in some dumbbells or a plate loading kettlebell for your room. They don't take up much space and you can work out any time.

Try tabata burpees. If you can do the 8th cycle with the same form as the first one, you are a better man than I am. I can usually go 6 rounds with perfect form and then I hit the wall - but I am getting better.
