I do them as fast as I can, so pretty fast at first, but of course once I get past say 25, it's a struggle and I slow down. I also don't include pushups with them, that would tire me out before 20 reps. I'd cut out the pushups. I can do about 65 pushups on my best day, but if I incorporate them into my burpees I'd be lucky to hit 15 or 20. Like pullups, burpees are easy to improve on quickly, just gotta keep with it. My goal is to be able to do descending sets starting with 20. One set 20 reps, next set 19 reps, all the way down to 0 for a total of 210 reps (without rest between sets!). I hear that's the only way to get respect in prison without having to kill someone. Not that I intend or plan on going to prison, but I figure a prison gang fitness test is a pretty good standard to go by. Also, I'm 5'6 and ~120 lbs so I don't have a lot of weight to deal with here anyway. I'm pretty weak compared to just about everyone else, but incredibly strong for having the small frame I have, if that makes any sense at all. edit: A coworker was in the military, and as punishment he said his drill instructor would have them do burpees for 3 hours straight. They call them bodybuilders though. Doing 100 in 5 minutes feels like it's going to kill me, I can't even imagine 3 hours!
