New contest idea...

Given the failure of the most recent SF contest, and in a spirit to revive them, I propose a new sort of competition...

We have several prominent members who frequently post WAYWT pics of their unique style; I don't need to name them, as we all know who they are. What if we nominated one of them, and held a contest to see who could best emulate his personal style? Imagine, everyone trying to put together a Vox look, or a PG look, or a Manton look.

Of course, the only judge would have to be the person whose style the entrants must ape. If there is interest, suggest names of possible candidates, and we can set up a poll- the one who gets the most votes becomes the subject and judge of the contest!

What say ye?

I'll add another idea to the pile... Sometimes I copy a WAYW picture as inspiration. I always liked the idea of doing a competition where you post the original inspiration picture and then your personalized version it. The point could be to copy it (like the above posting), but it's more about taking something you found inspirational about the original (style, colors, textures, attitude, photo angle, etc) and how you incorporated it or let it change how you normally would dress. or sort of doing it, only "your" way.

It's true it did go a bit badly. Your idea is great though!

No no, it wasn't your fault...I think The People are just ready for a new kind of contest. You'd probably be one of the proposed looks to emulate, in fact.

I'd imagine people would have greater success emulating voxsartoria's writing style than Neofinitia's dress sense, but I still wanna see attempts

I think the William Hung style hilarity will be worth as much as the (presumed) final successful attempt. I don't even know if I'd be willing to take a stab at that.

So we need a pool of members to vote amongst- who do you guys think of? Here's my quick list of people with identifiable enough styles that they could be copied. Keep in mind, you will want to also capture the nature of each person's posting style- Vox's kouros pose, PG's smile and photo skills, the Holdfast pose...the possibilities are endless. One approach, as suggested above, might be to take a particular WAYWT post of the target and make the most successful copy possible. This list is by no means comprehensive: make your suggestions, then we can have a poll: Voxsartoria Phat Guido yfyf maomao1980 Neofinitia Manton SoCal2NYC Holdfast

If that idea doesn't take off, here's another possibility: teams.
For ex: NYC, EU, Hong Kong, UK, California, AUS, Dirty South, etc.

I have no idea how this would work. Just a thought for fun.

To add some more people and some descriptions yfyf - slim fits, slim ties, unusual shades of suits, interesting details (2 cuff buttons), filson bags, perfect framed photos in a studio with user name copywritten on it. Triniboy - colorful ties, tweed / patterned brown sportscoats, grainy work bathroom photos Barims - Mix and match, a bit of colorful flair. flowers in buttonholes and straw hats. old school meets new school PandArts - blurry pictures + mixed pictures from throughout the day, matching jacket and vest, purple tie LabelKing - Older then classic or vintage, clothes and style from 50-100 years ago on a young guy, but carried with a light sneer of contempt like it's still better then you Voxsartoria Phat Guido - immaculate fits, OCD attention to detail with descriptions, photos on the street with subtle hints of wealth (cars, cafe's), swirly faces yfyf - covered maomao1980 Neofinitia - colorful, lots of play with shape, color. Use of unusual items for unintended purposes. Pictures of clothes in action (jumps) Manton - Record/music of the day (was that Manton?) SoCal2NYC - Wearing the kind of stuff you only see on runways. Photos at parties in stores, meetups with other SF people, and a screw you attitude. Holdfast - signature pose (lean back on a wood desk with optimas prime, arm point upwards), full cut suits with narrow chests and wide skirts, pink or purple tie, 3 piece suits, etc. NOTE - Please, nobody get offended or anything. This is all in the name of good fun.

This is a hysterical idea. I approve, and will judge.

Then it's on, eh?

You guys seriously want to do it? Since iammatt already volunteered, should we just have a "Best Imitation of iammatt Contest?" There will always be time for the Foo, PG, or yfyf one. I'd offer a burnbulb one, but I don't think we want to go there.
