I thought it was a very pretty movie. However it never really makes a point on the theme of whether we are more then the sum of our memories. I thought it was a bit intellectually shallow.

Well contemprary art is entering "canon" (as in $$$, museum expos, hell even contemprary art auctions are ballin') quicker than ever but I don't think cinema criticism has followed suit yet. Maybe in 15-20 yrs they'll have super quick cultural re-evaluation like the pure arts.

Just want to see what others think.

Is it just me, but why do I always confuse it with The Green Mile?

I just saw 12 Angry Men and I have to agree with imdb to some degree, it's very good and still holds relevance today.

In any case, I like watching Shawshank when I stumble across it on a boring rainy saturday, but that's about it.

+1000 for your Ayn Rand hatred.

Shawshank is an overrated piece of shmaltzy, sentimental tripe. Any redeeming value it once had was totally killed by TNT's incessant reruns.
