Razor that minimizes razor bumps? - Page 3

Merkur Futur didn't work for me either. OTH, the butterfly-design razors allow one to adjust tension in a much more precise way

Ehhhh don't be so quick to give up on the Merkur Futur. Merkur razors have a totally different geometry than the Gillette TTOs (twist to open), especially the Futur and Vision, which are each in their own class really. I have 7 razors, some Merkur and some Gillette, and the Futur is by far my favorite. Don't go nuts adjusting or messing with it. Adjust not to the highest setting you can tolerate (imminent disaster), but to the lowest setting that's effective. I think most people shouldn't go above 1.5 or 2....if that high. Keep in mind a full setting of 6 on a Futur means the razor blade is far enough from the safety bar that it's the equivalent of a straight razor shave. The Futur is much less forgiving than other safety razors, but with a little patience and skill, you'll find it's the best shaver hands down. They got the angle on that thing so down, if you are doing it right, as it shaves your hair it sounds like a sword is unsheathing.

This morning I gave my safety razor that i bought a couple of weeks ago another try.
I can't see how a safey razor should cause less razor drag than my mach 3 turbo. Damn, after about 10 minutes shaving under the shower I still wasn't finished. So i grabbed my mach 3 and finished the job within 2 minutes.

Okay, it might help if I use some better shaving cream. This morning I used gilette shaving gel (always use gel btw), but i've tried American Crew Cream and Prosario as well and the mach 3 always comes out best... by far..

So as much as I wanna believe a safety razor gives a better shave than my mach 3, it still has to proof itself.

All tips on making it easier shaving with a safety razor are more than welcome..

Ouch, here's a tip don't shave in the shower! If you drop your razor, it's likely going to mean a trip to the hospital. Believe it or not double edge razor blades are much sharper than even a straight. Also, you can't rush through it, you have to take your time and pay attention. Yeah it only takes 1 minute to shave with a M3 because there's no skill involved, you just drag it all over your face and you're done. A safety razor though will punish you with a cuts and razor burn for not taking your time and being careful. Don't be too put off though by the extra time needed. It's really an enjoyable, luxurious experience. Especially if you use a badger hair brush and halfway decent soap or cream. I'd at least give it 2 weeks before giving up on it. That seems to be the standard time people need to get used to it. Lather up, then do a with the grain reduction pass, don't really try to shave too close with the first pass. Then, lather up again, and shave very carefully against the grain for the baby butt smooth feel.

That's the thing about shaving with double-edged razors in general: with proper skill+patience it gives you the smoothest, cleanest shave + the feeling of not being ripped-off by the companies that make those grossly overpriced cartridges

I've done some searching but can't find it on the Web. Does anyone know what it's called or where I can find one?

The name of the razor is Bump Fighter, it has a guard on the blade that prevents the razor from cutting the hair below the skin line (95% of the reason for ingrown hairs or razor bumps). Here are two links that explain in further detail why men and women get razor bumps and one of the best products to reduce them (3-in-1 post shave by Lab Series).
