Funny you should ask. I just wrote them an email yesterday. Here is the response:

Dear Sir

Our next sale will not be until the end of June and the prices will be around £300.

Kind regards
Edward Green and Co

peanut butter sandwiches are in order.

Norman, can you give me an idea on selection during last years sales? When I was in London earlier this year my preferred last, 808, was not heavily stocked. I'm just wondering if this will be the case some sales time.

Thanks in advance.

Can't answer that one for you. Sorry. At this time last year owning a pair of Edward Greens seemed like a pipe dream (wonders what an overpaying job and a hefty Christmas bonus makes possible).

I think the selection is usually pretty good -- though it's not like a store wide sale.

300 quid (does it include VAT?) or almost $600, plus shipping and potential duties, not much cheaper than retail prices here in the States. Are Mitchell's and Richards still selling EG for $695? I remember it was 200 or 250 quid last winter. Compare with PS sales, this sales looks very lame.

Mitchells/Richards are now at $850 according to several NY/CT residents who responded to this question a few months ago. But you're right, they were something like $695 just over a year ago.

I'll email Ray over at EG and ask him what the selection will look like this Summer, I'll post his reply.

Yeah, you are saving no more than ~ $200. If you buy EG shoe trees, that number is much less. If I'm spending that much, it makes sense to me not to do the sale and, rather, order the exact style, last, and leather that I want and pay slightly more.

Exactly. They are probably odd sizes, less popular models, colors. The ones on sales last winter weren't the ones I lust over. I'd rather spend slightly more to get exactly what I want.

Do they usually reduce the price further towards the end of sales?

The semi-annual EG sales offer 50% discounts from their regular prices.

This is the retail store's sale, not the factory's sale. The inventory at the retail store tends to be conservative.

They usually start the sale with perhaps ten pair in my size, all oxfords and half in black. It is London after all.

Great value if you already know your size and need what they have. I have acquired 3-4 pair during the sales over the years.

If you can find EG inventory in the United States for $700 it's a couple of years old, from before the dollar's decline. If they fit, buy them.

Where are best US purveyors for the MTM program?

Saks NY? Has anyone tried the Polo Mansion's version?

That's unfair. EG does its sales as the normal course of business. The PS sale is a once in every 5 yr event.

You might have difficulties finding last 808 in the EG sale. EG, in their own collection, has virtually phased out the last 808 and replaced it with 888. (I believe last 888 is a bit more forgiving and fits a greater number of people than 808.)

It might still be RLPL's last of choice (has been for the last years); equally other retailers might specify that particular last for their orders. See if you can find 888 somewhere to try on, EG will have a much better selection in that last.

Of course, if you don't look for a bargain, they can always make up the shoe of your choice in last 808.
