Lifting Weights to help lose fat

I heard this from somewhere before but is it supposed to work?

Works better than doing nothing. Some sort of weight training is in order for almost everyone.

It may not be nescessary if you haven't lifted but its important to perserve muscle mass in lifters who cut.

lifting weights help build muscle, and the more muscle you have the more calories your body uses. thus if everything else is the same, u lose weight/fat

also lifting weights builds muscle which sticks out from under your skin better than fat does, so it makes you more defined and helps you lose the image of fatness.
