Isn't that when the two of them are at the coffee shop?

Well, I was single longer than Heat has been around, perhaps they took the line from me...

(I'm not anymore, so I don't get to say it as much)

I hate eating alone, back in college I would sometimes skip a meal if no friends were available haha.

^^ an extrovert for sure. Sometimes, I get self-conscious when I eat alone but a non-issue for me. Last week, I was at the Empress Pavillion having dim-sum alone. Not a problem.

I've had to get used to it with all my globetrotting as of late But it isn't something I look forward to getting comfortable with.

I think Christmas/winter holiday was the last time I ate a meal with someone else. Now that I see it in writing, it seems pretty pathetic.

This is one of those recurring questions that just makes no sense to me. Why such consternation over something as simple and necessary as eating? I can understand why we get a "do these jeans look good" thread every week but this makes no sense.
That said I actually like eating out alone and do so often, usually for lunch. I also like going to the movies alone. I suppose I would not like it as much if it was not out of choice. There are so many reason that you could be eating alone that I would not worry about what anyone else thinks.

When traveling for business, I always pick up a local paper and then head to a decent restaurant. It's very nice to sit by yourself, thoroughly read the paper (local is interesting for places I have never been before), and have a good relaxing meal without having to talk to anyone.

I just find something incredibly satisfying about dining alone where there is none of the concern of groupthink and compromise, and the awkward payment part. There have been too many times where I've been suckered in to pay my share of fine wines which I did not have any intention of ordering in the first place.

The problem with dining alone is that some restaurants have a policy of a minimum of 2 diners per table and in which case, I usually lie about my partner arriving later. Another downside is you get assholes who try to paint your life story based simply on you out dining alone.

LOL Well, so much for helping the OP feel much better about himself, asshole.

Everyone else is worried about their food, their table, and their lives. No one is paying any attention to the person sitting alone.

I have no problem eating alone. Sometimes I go out to socialize and sometimes I just want something to eat.

In university cafeterias, I see alot of people eating alone - breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I am almost always eating with someone simply because my schedule coincides with my friends'.

However, I have eaten alone a few times, and while lunch feels nice and peaceful, dinner just seems a bit awkward because there are so many large groups of people around.
