Anyways, barbers and waitresses get good tips from me. Shoe shiners usually get $2. I only take cabs in the boroughs, never in the city. I hate yellow cabs with a passion and the only time I've paid for a yellow cab I tipped 0%. After getting charged $10 for literally 10 blocks theres no way I giving them any extra money. I already felt raped.

finally someone in thsi thread wiht some sense.

no one in the rest of the world tips. tipping in certain situations in this country actually makes sense but the whole custom has become pretty abused

I generally only round up to the nearest £, but maybe that's just on account of the fact that tipping isn't 'expected' over here like it is in the US. The only exception to the rule is if I'm getting a taxi around Christmas/New Year, where I'll often add on £3-5 to the original fare.

My typical cab ride is very short from my place to the bars, I'd say it's usually around $5 and ,we usually give him a buck or two extra.

Agreed. When you first move to a larger city, you keep wondering why cabs are so expensive. It's because the cabbies will take the most inconvenient and roundabout route to get there.

In response to the original post, I usually round up to the nearest 5, unless the fare is below 5 dollars, when I will add a buck or two.
