Patrick Bateman's Morning Routine ... - Page 2

+1 Teger. A better question is...did he REALLY kill anyone at all? Ellis left that question wide open, and never made that decision himself while writing the book he said in an interview.

Ellis also says that the clothing he describes, both of what he's wearing and the people he meets, are ridiculous upon close examination, e.g. waitresses wearing head-to-toe designer clothing.

I was watching American Psycho over the weekend with one of my very down-to-earth Army buddies, and he's poking fun at his perceptions of similarity between myself and Bateman. The long morning routine, talking about clothes, drinking mineral water, et cetera.

"Hey Steve, this guy's just like you!"

Bateman then kills the panhandler --my friend remains silent--and the scene cuts to his exercise routine.

"Never mind... you sucked it up on your last PT test, that's definitely not you!"

As true as this is (pay special attention to his descriptions of his colleagues too - polka dot suits, women's high heeled pumps with men's suit jackets?) I like to take the 'realism' view in that Batemen is 100% accurate in his descriptions of pretty much everything, and it's actually a combination of his wealth, status and man's general indifference that keeps him from ever suffering any consequences.

The antidote to American Psycho is probably Fight Club.

Tyler Durden: "Maybe self-improvement isn't the answer; maybe self-destruction in the answer."

I had fun looking at my friends new business card the other night. It has raised lettering, but sadly no watermark.

Remember, PB doesn't even know what "braised" means

It was baked, not braised. He didn't know what baked was. Also his grandfather kept a zoo on his estate.

I tired his morning routine for a week or two and it made my skin break out on my face, from what was normally clear skin. It's ridiculous to do all that he does everyday, maybe half of it everyday and the other stuff once a week.

But, on the other hand, eating right and working out are good ideas for all people. I think taking care of your self is a good idea.

People want to be the guy because he dress's well, lives in a nice place and is in great shape.

Never bought a cold face mask, dunno if that would do anything, maybe it would be relaxing to wear when in the bath.

For this crowd I think the book is an interesting read. Its important to understand that its his perception that he is better then his surroundings. Its not put out there, but its in the details, the fact that his clothes are nicer then the ones he somehow knows his colleagues are wearing, his apartment is nicer then the others (except paul owens).
