seriously, Alan, I would think that you could get a gun where you are.

what, exactly, are you thinking of using it for? they are great for some things, less good for others,

I was going to edit that its for a female friend of mine. She had a close call in a parking late at night and is freaked out by it. Guy had her up against the wall but people heard and interfered.

Now shes not too comfortable after classes at night so its to make her feel safe and actually be effective in case shes attacked again.

As for guns im not good enough with one to own one personnally lol. Although yes itd be pretty easy for me to get one. Friend of mine travels with 2 AKs and a handgun in his jeep.

yeah, for a girl worried about being raped, a stun gun is a good tool, as long as she carries it all the time. pepper spray is probrably just as good or better, as it is easier to make sure you have it all the time. personal alarms, they go off and cant' be shut up easierl and are very load, are good too.

Yeah i thought a stun gun would beat pepper spray since youd have 2 aim for the eyes for the latter?

Btw globe is there any use for it to be shaped like a cell phone or whatever? i doubt itd matter at the time?

And are there voltages that could be lethal? should i get her lower range ones or higher?

(Thanks for the help)

I have one. dunno the voltage, I would assume that most would go through and knock somoene out. I keep it in my door jam in my car for road ragers or whatever comes my way.

I have used a stun gun on a dog, and was very, very unimpressed to say the least.

My little love dog Jessie (who weighed about 97 pounds) and my wife's poodle Cory (who weighed about 50 pounds) became blood enemies as Jessie matured, and we had to keep the two bitches separated. (Cory had been very cruel to Jessie when Jessie was little. Cory had earlier torn up my wife's other poodle so badly she had to be put down.

So that my wife could separate them in the event of an accidental mixup, I bought several stun guns and placed them at strategic spots in the house.

Eventually there was such a mix-up and Jessie grabbed Cory. We used the stun gun on Jessie. No effect. My wife ran and got a second stun gun, and this time we zapped Jessie with both stun guns simultaneously. This had enough effect on Jessie to make her loosen her hold on Cory so that we could get the poodle away from her, but Jessie was still full of fight and raring to get at the poodle, even though we had her by the collar by then.

If two stun guns had minimal effect on a 97 pound dog, you can draw your own conclusions. Perhaps some other stun guns are more effective, though.

My feelings about this are...the simple fact that if I find my life in such a state that it becomes a reasonable idea to carry around some kind weapon to subdue people while going about my "normal" daily business...then it's time to change my life...not get a weapon.

Go for OC (mace) over a stun gun. During my training I had to get tased and god damn did it hurt. Mace training was worse however. For a female looking for self protection, mace is typically a better option. Using a stun gun can be very difficult, she would have to get it through the clothing and make contact with the skin for it to work properly, meaning she would have to get very close to the person it is being used on. Mace can be shot from a distance, although not very far away. The point is to have something to give her time to get away. Overall, self awareness is the best deterrent.

basically +1, I think that it is less practical to always have a stun gun around, where as you can get pretty good sprays in very compact containers, and they don't go off by accident or loose the charge

I don't think that's the case here, it's a simple fact that bad things happen to good people and crime occurs everywhere. Sometimes it can be good for a woman to have something to give her an edge in case she was to become a victim of crime. It never hurts to be aware of what goes on around you.

yes, but in a predictable way - I have a number of sprays in my house and car, I replace them every 2 years. I am concerned (although have no personal knowledge of it) that a stun gun can loose it charge and you won't know about it.

in many cases I agree with the poster - but Alan lives in beruit - a very very dangerous city. if I lived in beruit I would carry and AK-47.
