I was just bustin' yer chops, gt. The truth is I'm grateful for all the advice I've gotten on this. On second thought, though, it would have been a lot funnier if I had ended my previous post with "...but when I poked my head with a polo mallet, it dint hort t al ."

Changed my life... This neti pot cured my sinusitis years ago.

Yeah, the neti pot did an adequate job for me, but it doesn't compare to the nasal irrigator. (and it really shouldn't since it is like 1/6 of the price)

the neti pot isn't exactly fun to use. I am a little scared of that machine pumping saline into my brain.

I think the nasal irrigator is easier to use and less messy than the neti pot. And it does feel great!

Healthy mucus should always be clear. When I have a cold it tends to go a cloudy and thick green, and when I have a flu it tends towards an iridiscent yellow or amber, both indicating the presence of a virus or bacteria.

I think cloudy white means there's a tiny infection of the common variety, but it's already fought off by the body.

Of course, like with any medical advice, check this with your doctor.

There is no reliable diagnostic method for sinusitis despite generations of conventional wisdom to the contrary (including mucus color, sinus sensitivity to pressure or x-ray). I've heard good things about irrigation, you just need something to dump saline into your nose, not any mystical indian pot. If no dice, go see an ent.

If you have a Waterpik, you can get a 15 dollar attachment to turn it into a nasal irrigator. You must have the 'full' Waterpik though, not the new hand held ones they are selling.

I've been using a neti pot for 4 years now, pre-Oprah. My roomies went to college with a bunch of Indian kids and they taught them about it. I still am very prone to sinus infections here in NY, i think it's the air. But I still use it every day anyway. I had a sinus infection come back last week, and I tried taking Olive Leaf Extract and that seemed to finally kill it off. I forgot that i had some success with it many years ago and decided to give it another go.

You can use steam, too.

For future reference, swelling and dark circles under the eyes probably are suggestive of congestion. The suggestion of ill health might, by the way, be reasons why such visuals lower physical attractiveness.
