I never understood this look. Sloppy as hell.

It can work if you tuck the shirt in and button up the waistcoat. As pictured, "sloppy" doesn't even come close. This guy appears to have been caught in the act of undressing. Also, I've never seen a waistcoat that didn't have a silk back - it has to, otherwise your jacket won't fit.

That guy looks sloppy as hell. I wouldnt even call those pants slim either.

If you are gonna do it, get a different color tie or pattern or something and/or a different color shirt. Tuck the goddamn shirt in and button the waistcoat. The basic Black skinny tie set is so played you will just look like any other jerk in some random college bar.

I was just providing the guy in the picture as an example, a very...rough example.

What I wanted to ask was what kind of waistcoat would be appropriate? I have one with a silk back...but it came as a part of my 3 piece suit...

It's never appropriate. Don't do it.

I should have found a better picture...

What I want to go for is:

Nice slim white shirt TUCKED IN , skinny tie, waistcoat, and dark jeans. Why are you guys all jumping on the same bandwagon? Randomkoreadude pulled it off about a week ago in WAYWT and no one said anything about him, in fact he got quite a few compliments. I just want to replicate the look but was wondering instead of the filson Mackinaw vest, if a waistcoat would be ok.

There you go. A better picture to compare it to so people actually read the thread.

I'm all for modernizing things, but I can't imagine a waistcoat being worn separate from a suit. The whole look just reminds me too much of what a bartender/waiter would wear. You'd need a hell of a lot of attitude and some color to pull it off.

Asians can wear anything and look good in them.
