Bought topied shoes...what lies beneath?

I bought some shoes (C&J Lowndes) that were topied that may have been worn once or twice max based on the lack of creasing of the uppers. I know it's a little ridiculous, but I just want the leather soles exposed, and wish to remove the topies (by taking them to a competent cobbler). Has anybody done this and what was the result?

I also would like to know.

I imagine there would be glue residue. But why do you want to take them off?

I like the look/feel of the natural leather soles. I admitted it's pretty inconsequential.

still wanna hear the 'tap tap' when you walk???

in my experience, you can still hear it with topy'd shoes.

Nope. Nothing to do with it. Just don't like the topy for aesthetic reasons (noted that it won't be visible when I walk). Having the topy on will make it one of the last shoes I reach for in my closet as opposed to one of the first.

They can be removed -- the cobbler has to do so to replace them. And he could sand down any glue residue, I imagine.

I figured with all of the idiosyncratic shoe phenomena on here somebody had tried this before. Well. I'm going to give it a go on Saturday and see what happens. Pictures will be involved.

Most likely the cobbler that installed the topys sanded down the original sole finish so you might not get what you think you might get, but kudos for the no topy attitude

Thanks Bris. I'm prepared for that response, in which case I'll tell him to forget about it and these beautiful shoes will likely sit in my closet collecting dust BTW, Bris they didn't come with a box (just shoe bags) and I thought about your obsession with boxes. Have you ever bought a box from the manufacturer?

If he sands down the glue and paints the soles black, what difference does it make?

Ugh. Let me be the first to say that your reactions are idiotic and I feel sorry for you.
