Jazzfest in New Orleans - Page 2

A business trip in '84 coincided. First night was a 'booze cruise' on a big riverboat (paddleboat) out on the Mississippi featuring Etta James, The Fabulous Thunderbirds & James Cotton. We sat w/ a nice unobstructed view of the stage with buckets of crawfish dumped on the table and inumerable rounds of beers (Dixie?) being constantly replenished.

The day we visited the fairgrounds(?) was pretty great too - many stages, great talent, tons of good food and lots of beer. Missed 'Fess by a couple of years....

Ridiculous. How come I missed out on all the good shit I was listening to the Fess earlier today. For N'awlinz Creole music, only Dr. John comes close!

I lived in New Orleans during my college days (Tulane), and am hoping to make it back this year. I actually performed in 1997 on the Fais-Do-Do Stage. Great times. The city is pretty full (nothing like Mardi Gras, though), but with a happy crowd of music lovers. Make sure you spend your evenings on Frenchman Street -- that's where the real fun is. Check out all of the local club listings during the festival, because you'll have plenty of great people in town who aren't performing at the actual event. And tons of people will show up to jam unannounced. Make your restaurant reservations NOW. Let me know if you need help with that -- I've been to most of them.

yeah, decided I wanted to watch the Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton fight and go to Rehab. Plus there's a convention there I can go to in my industry and I can write most of the weekend off if I play my cards right.

I'll definitely go though, one of those things I'd always want to do. I'm going to plan better for next year....a few friends are actually going, but I'm not that close to them that I'd want to roll with.

NOLA is a good time though, I've only been Mardi Gras which was crazy...but would like to go back when its lively, historical and not as wild.

Yeah JazzFest is pretty chill comparing to Mardi Gras. New Orleans also have a great history and culture.

yeah, when i was there for mardi gras, kind of glad i stayed down by Lee Circle....got more of a neighborhood vibe versus just the more commercilized side of mardi gras. house parties, local parades, etc.

new orleans is one of my favorite US cities. just love the culture and vibe.

Yeah man..St. Charles around uptown is such a beautiful neighborhood. Magazine st is pretty awesome in terms of shopping for vintage/antique stuff.

i live in nawlins. mardi gras was good this year
post #29 of 30
Yeah it was pretty good. Mardi Gras is recession proof ;]. It was good that 90% of hotels were book, and restaurants were constantly pack.

As a local, I can vouch for Jazzfest being a plesant experience. In fact, I wait all year until the next one. It's my favorite holliday. I know the relaxed liquor laws can be fun, but try to be a good tourist. In fact, try to blend in with the locals. You'll have a much better time.
