What do you mean exactly?

You could try using an angle to make the pics more interesting, so not straight down like you did in the examples, but with a slight angle, if you know what I mean. That will give you a(n even) better idea of the textures as well.

Edit: or like davesmith's first example beneath this post. Nicely tied tie, white background. The angle I mentioned probably works better for detail shots to show the fabric texture.

Here are a few examples of what I mean.

Seamless white background, you can "feel" the item in the image.

Do you think my photos have that character?

Maybe not the same texture as Mr. Porter but almost. Put it this way, with your pictures, it is easy to see what you're getting and the correct colors. Can't really do better than that.

Kent, if you're looking for an honest answer, they almost look a little overexposed, and a bit flat. If you rolled them perhaps, or sharpened up the processing a bit, that would improve (but as stated above, its not a bad shot by any means).

Ed - Love the houndstooth & glen plaid...do you sell these? I've never seen them on your website.

Thanks, that's useful. I'm gonna try putting the lights more to the side instead of above the subject.

Post a picture of your setup please. Also, how do you get such a white background?

Any ideas on where I can find a tie similar to this one, 3" / 8 cm wide, burgundy with blue print?

It's out of stock at Drakes
