Is it stylish to wear a pinstriped blazer with non-striped pants?

I think it can be done depending on the cut and detail of the jacket (meaning that it looks like something that was intended for that purpose and not an orphaned business suit jacket). But it doesn't sound like what you have acquired would be great candidates.

Are there any other rules I need to know of when something is a business jacket meant for business purposes only? Are pinstripes the only thing to watch out for in regards to that?

The question is, How much do you care about tradition? If you do care, then know that stripes are traditionally for suits, not odd jackets. If you don't care, then go for it.

I will still think it looks bad, but why should you care what I think?

not long ago there were Grey Polo RL 'sportcoats' up in the B&S section.

They had a very tight pinstripe in blue, looked fantastic and they looked like a sportcoat.

I would say, a chalkstripe is going to look odd, but the above tightly spaced pinstripe in a color not too contrasting is going to look fine.

It sounds like what you should be asking is "what types of suit jackets can be worn as odd jackets?"

I commend your enthusiasm for learning the rules, but if you are curious about whether something you already have works a certain way, why not just try it and post up some pics in WAYWRN and see what kind of feedback you get? (Hint, don't announce in the pic post that you are wearing an orphaned suit jacket).

Well the problem is I'm already quite peeved at myself for wasting $50, and hence I don't wanna waste any more money on top of that by ignorantly buying other things that also can't be used.

The trick is that they're clearly NOT an orphaned suit jacket.

Unless they are....in which case....

I can't decide if I love it or I hate it... i think I like it. I can definately tell it takes ahem-balls-ahem to wear that, but do I actually like it... I just don't know.

Quick, someone tell me my opinion!
