How many Tees?

Guys, I'm in the middle of a (streetwear) wardrobe overhaul ... currently stocked with oversized, and hence ill-fitting ... "ugly" t-shirts ... planning to purchase a healthy amount over the next few weeks, and slowly rid my wardrobe of the old ... so how many tees does a guy need? (to not look cheap) Pretty much, how often should a certain tee make an "appearance"? 5 tees = once a week etc.

I think tees are the sort of thing you can never have too many of, in different colors. When you find a source that makes ones you REALLY like, stock up if they are affordable.

For example, Uniqlo in Japan makes these "premium cotton" tees in solid colors; I think I bought one in nearly every color, just because I loved the materials and the fit... and the price (about 1500 yen or $13 a piece).

why not ovverhaul into actual shirts, with buttons? if you keep it basic, you definitly need less than graphic tees.

Yea I totally agree that you can never have TOO many tees ... just a question of how many is not enough I guess ... yea I've actually recently found a place that stocks nice graphic tees, that actually aren't OVERKILL ... they sell at $40/each ... or $70/for 2 ... so yea $35 is actually pretty good for Aus prices ... usually $50-60 at the very least ... I'm assuming $13 is US = approx. $20 ...

Sorry mate, but I actually don't understand the second half of your message? Not being rude or anything yea, but can you rephrase? .... and to be totally honest with you, shirts were actually my first priority ... and now have 7 dress shirts, that I actually pair with jeans (I am aware that some people hate the dress shirt/jean combo ... but yea each to their own) ... I'm actually a recent graphic design student ... looking for work in a design studio - and have been told that dress shirts don't go down so well in this environment??? That usually even creative heads (Art Director etc.) are in tees/jeans ... except for client consults etc. So that's the main reason I'm doing the tee overhaul ... so once I get a job ... I don't look out of place, or over-dressed ... opinions?

I'm curious to know what this place is? I wager you're talking about T-bar?

Cheap wearable tees are hard to find here in Melbourne (and in Australia generally), the norm standard being vomit worthy. I usually stock up in HK at BEAMS, and at UNIQLO as Rach suggested.

In regards to the topic, I reckon you should at least have enough tees to wear a different one each day. Wearing a tee 1+ days in a row (especially during the summer) not only makes you look cheap, but also dirty.

I live in L.A. and could not have too many of them. I think I have about a hundred, some of which I have not yet worn. The older they get, the better they look.

I buy hane's shirts; they are cheap and classic. I only wear white shirts.

What I find amusing is that I tend to use plain v-necks a lot, but I have never made a point to overhaul or buy a lot of them. I have a couple ralph lauren ones in black and white (about 6 or so), and a few alt. apparel ones in purple, teal, and grey.

I have nothing against graphic t-shirts, but I wouldn't buy any... except this amazing david bowie one I have and a russian propaganda poster one.

so I'd say keep a few (2 or 3 of your favorite colors as well as basic ones such as white, grey, black, etc). I'd say, if you really like t-shirts, keep about 15-20?

I just buy ten or so American Apparel t's, crewnecks, each year. Most are in shades of blue, navy or grey. A few black.

I'll graduate to Alternative Apparel when the price / wage ratio gets better for me.

I think the T needs more love. It's a shame that graphic designs are so overdone these days.

I'd love to be able to make some T's some day. Must put that on my to do list.

I can't bring myself to wear a tee-shirt.

However, I would consider one if it was screenprinted with that iconic image from "The Night Porter":

I too will only wear holocaust and s&m themed shirts. Maybe threadless will make a night porter shirt.
