Some friends are trying the Wendy Chant "Cracking the Fat Loss Code" diet. To me, it seems to be a rather extreme way to reduce body fat. Any comments by SF readers about it? Anyone tried it?

Wendy Chant Diet

I have been on the Wendy Chant diet since January 5th. Some friends of mine were/are on the diet and lost 20+ pounds each. My husband has lost 18 pounds................me only 5
The diet is pretty easy to follow and does seem to work. I think it works best on people who eat a lot of carbs on a daily basis. I do not eat many carbs so I think that is why my loss is not as much as others are experiencing. I am going to start over and do another 8 weeks and see if I have any better success

Any diet that does not promote eating whole foods is an instant fail in my book. From what I gather, the diet's about cycling carbs and fats - but that and more is already covered in The Anti-Estrogenic Diet book.
I might be wrong about this diet being about carb/fat cycling because it seems impossible to find a decent website explaining what her method is all about - it's all just marketing fluff.

Wendy's diet is set up so that your body becomes a fat burning machine. When the right combo of foods are eaten it makes your body go to your fat for energy. It is an 8 week plan with the first week being carb deplete........only allowed 20 grams of carbs per day. Week 2 you gradually add your carbs back into your diet and by week 3 you can eat sweets on certain days. By the 6-8 week you have CHEAT days where you can eat whatever you want. This is the first diet I have been on where I don't feel hungry. It can be confusing but if you speak with people, on these forums, that are on the diet they can help a lot.

Don't you mean to say that when certain foods AREN'T eaten (i.e. carbs), your body goes to fat for energy?
It's called ketosis. And the diet isn't something new. The ketogenic diet has been around for a loooong time. If anyone wants to learn more about what exactly is going on in your body when eating low-carb, check out Lyle MacDonald's "The Ketogenic Diet"

Before anyone goes on expensive diets, do yourself a favor - buy two of Lyle McDonald's books - The Ketogenic Diet and The Ultimate Diet 2.0. Read them cover to cover and really understand what's happening to the food when it enters your body and how the body uses it. Then implement the principles in the books using normal food. Have discipline and patience. For 50 bucks, you will be better off then any off the shelf diet plan.

UD2.0 is totally unnecessary for a novice dieter, IMO, and is likely to throw them off. A Guide to Flexible Dieting might be a better purchase for someone just starting out.

Great question! I believe that well balanced diet revolves around eating healthy and maintaining a workout regiment that best fits your body type. If you are looking to count your calories, head over to www.FitClick.com and try the Online Calorie Counter. This counter helps count your calories so you don't have to! Good Luck!
