houston is so so so much more miserable than dallas. dallas is full of nice people and beautiful women. although 90% are CWGs.

but as far as going out at night and shit, i'm too old to really know whats what. but like austin there is usually good live music happening somewhere, which is cool.

my wife likes to hang out in lounges of expensive hotels where everyone is trying to look beautiful, rich and sophisticated. which to me is a form of torture.

but we also do have lots of fatties. this is true.

The weight is not from eating out at "fine" establishments. It's from McDonalds, etc.

Wow.javyn.. bitter much?

A new world class opera hall opens this year. One of the premier music halls in the United States, the Meyerson is here (the sound in the hall is unbelievable).... the arboretum is one of the best in the United States..there are many, many gyms, work out facilities and yoga studios here as well.. Yes.. we do have amazing restaurants as well (the French Room is consistently rated one of the top 20 restaurants in the US).

You want sports? Both pro and collegiate are at your beck and call year round in some of the best venues in the US.

But .. don't let those pesky facts get in the way though.

Well hells bells, Houston just gets worse and worse then doesn't it I always comforted myself with the thought that Dallas was probably an even bigger shithole hehe

Man, I am with you on that!

I'm about to move from close-to-Austin to Houston .... and I keep telling myself: hell, at least ya don't have to live in Dallas!

I lived in Houston for 3 years in the 80s.

It has to be the only city I know where you can have.. a 70 story office building, across the street from a condo complex, which is right next door to a church, which is across from an adult book store. Those decades of "no zoning" let to some pretty wild arrangements.

The humidity blows.

When the wind blows the wrong way, the smell from the Ship Channel is alarming.

I prefer Ft. Worth to Dallas for most things. If I'm going to brave douchebag crowds, I'd much rather do it in Sundance Square than on Greenville. Better museums. Better Mexican food. Better dive bars (TCU > SMU as far as crowds).

Dallas has better shopping (though it pales in comparison to most other big cities if you're not just looking to hit Neiman Marcus), three decent art-house theaters (though Mark Cuban has fucked up the Magnolia and Inwood - too much mainstream programming), and presumably better titty bars.

How is Austin? My gf is in the artsy fartsy scene and is under the impression Austin isn't as cool or weird as it used to be. Where in H-town are you moving? Galleria area here. It sucks. If I have to hear one more rich, gold card carrying River Oaks bitch call Obama a nigger and say that our economy is in the predicament it's in because of food stamps, I think my head is going to explode.

No, no. Be clear on the fact that Houston is by far worse. It's like someone said "I like Dallas, but can you get me a city with more humidity, brown air, worse traffic and no zoning?". Houston, with certain exceptions, blows.

Brown air, I say. You can't see the tops of the buildings downtown on certain days in the summer. And I used to have a customer that ran something like 100 tow trucks out of his back yard b/c there was no zoning to prevent it. He owned about every house on the block b/c he'd buy them from his neighbors as they grew tired of dealing with his business in their quiet neighborhood.
