They are even better--they are called ULTRA-Goliaths by a brand called Rothschild Ltd. Apparently they are handmade, but I'm not sure what this company is.

Too bad it wasn't you getting rear-ended. The guy might have been drunk and then you could have forced a couple of bribes out of the counterparty! Ahh China...

In any case, I think this sort of high speed mayhem is impossible in Beijing these days since traffic seems to move slower than the pedestrians.

The driving experience in China is only slightly better than that of Italy.

Good point. I went to the Amalfi Coast once and thought I would die there, reasonably well dressed but also broken into many little pieces.

Had the same experience in and around Lenno. Crumbling 1 1/2 lane roads + tour buses + impatient Italian drivers + sheer drops and/or buildings set less than 1/2 meter from the road = good times! Anywhere in the middle / near east in infinitely worse though. I'll take Italy over Almaty any day.
