Burpess are absolute butt kickers. Never tried the tabata version though. Must be a killer.

They are tough! Burpee tabatas involve the longest 20 seconds and the shortest 10 seconds one can imagine! I do fine until about the 6th round, then my form suffers especially in the kick back phase of the burpee where I go from a crouch to the pushup position. My body keeps telling me that it is 42 years old and that this kind of workout is for younger guys, but my brain is too proud to acknowledge it.

Milhouse - excellent ideas. Alot of the training you undergo is quite similar to the Crossfit system. Then again the CF system claims to train for overall fitness so that you can apply them to tasks such as climbing and whatnot.

I'll suggest my friend that we incorporate ruck marches. Sounds like something that we can do on the weekends at our local state park.

For strength we are doing heavy squats and deadlifts and for overall fitness we are doing circuits of various exercises that are either borrowed from Crossfit or are similar substitutions to those types of exercises. Going to try to incorporate tabata's too as they seem to be effective in getting the heartrate up and in getting you to use your muscles with intensity.
