Edward Green Shoes in Washington, DC

This just in. On May 13th and 14th, representatives of Edward Green will be at Sky Valet Handmade Shoes in Washington, DC, for a trunk show. I understand that the "entire" line of Edward Green shoes and boots will be on display. One of the representatives will be taking orders, while the other will be an expert on construction of EGs and will be demonstrating how the shoes are put together, including the handsewing that goes into some of the EG shoes (such as the Dover split toe), presumably using a boar's bristle. Both, of course, will be available to answer questions. The reps are expert in the various lasts and styles and will be able to measure your foot and give you advice in order to ensure you select a shoe and last that is appropriate for your feet. I understand that entirely custom, bespoke orders (the ones that cost thousands, take an extra-long time to receive, etc.) will not be available at this time. However, EG's intermediate semi-custom program will be available, where you can get measured and select the exact shoe you want - type of leather, color, type of sole, special welts if desired, type of heel, etc., but using the existing lasts (888, 808, 606, etc.). I don't know what the deal will be on price, though I expect they will not charge more than the regular $850 price. This is a great development for men's shoes in DC. (a backwater compared to New York, shoewise). SPREAD THE WORD.. Sky Valet is located just above Georgetown in DC, on Wisconsin Avenue, NW, just past the intersection of R Street and Wisconsin Avenue. Phone is (202) 337-4333. EMail is skyvalet1@aol.com It's a relatively small store, so one always gets very personal and invididual attention at Sky (that's always been my experience anyway). By the way, the two owners are also master cobblers -- I get all my shoe repairs done there.... Sky also carries Alden, J.M. Weston, Yanko and Vass (though they are selling out their remaining stock of Vass).

Just saw EG and TG in NY.  Saw Tom Wolfe being fitted for some awesome spectators, resplendent in his signature white suit. You're in for a real treat if you enjoy beautiful shoes.  I pray daily the dollar regains its strength. Grayson

Hmm . . . perhaps another meet-up event for the DC SF members?

I'm all for it.

I received word from Sky that they have now, finally, received the sample EGs in the store. As stated before in prior posts, they are starting out only carrying 5 styles. I think all are on the same last (888 someone said IIRC). I also heard that their in-store stock will only go up to US size 11. See you at Sky this Saturday. I'll be there in the morning, unless anyone is interested in a "wine/cheese" thing at Sky after they officially close at 5pm. The guys at Sky are game I think.

this Saturday evening I probably couldn't do but I could definitely swing by Saturday morning as I want to take some alteration to Fields anyway. What time were you shooting for kabert?

I'll be there around 11, probably with my 2-1/2 yr. old son in tow.

Cool. Assuming I am awake by then, I will show up around then as well.

I plan to be at Sky Valet around 10:30 tomorrow morning to pick up a pair of shoes being repaired.  I'll be the guy mentally debating whether I can live off Chef Boyardee for the next month. Is the EG trunk show for serious buyers only, or are "tire kickers" welcome?

I'm not planning to buy any EGs tomorrow...

Why not do the meet up at the trunk show? Would love to join you fellows, but I'll be at the Greenbrier this weekend ... In any event, I was in SV last week and was told they'll be carrying three different lasts ... though the owner wasn't exactly sure which ones. So I'm happy to hear about the trunbk show. Will definitely be in buying mode then. Cheers, Hoya

See you then. Depending on whether my wife gets more than 2 or 3 hours sleep tonight tending to our newborn, I'll be the one with a 2-1/2 year old boy in tow (otherwise, I'm about 6ft.2; graying brown hair; probably wearing my Saturday "best" of jeans and a casual shirt -- not EGs).

Enjoyed meeting "medwards" at SV today. Some very nice shoes they have in the Edward Greens too -- 3 are classic oxfords and derbies in different shades - black; dark oak and I think chestnut (all on the 82 last, I think -- 82 is the rounded toe version of the 888 (so, sleek but without a square toe)); one is the kingsway (sp? kingsley?) - a really stunning 2-eyelet wingtip derby in the 888 last, and a slip on wholecut with toe brogueing (also, I think, on the 888 last. The trunk show is shaping up. Sky Valet is going to be advertising it and the store in the Washington Times and -- get this -- on cable TV (CNN; golf channel; etc.).

The Edward Green trunk show is two weeks from today and tomorrow. Mark your calendars and pick out the shoe(s) you plan to order. Sky has copies of the catalog at the store (the new catalog).
