are my shoulders broad or narrow?

Had the recently measured, they are between 44"-45"

I've always thought I had very narrow shoulders but read somewhere that a coat size of 40" or less is considered small.

what's the verdict?

Broad or narrow shoulders would be in comparison to the rest of your measurements. Pics would be better but, if you were to post a chest and waist size, you might get more feedback.

The ASTM standard is 6" bigger than the chest so you have narrowish or normal shoulders by their definition.

That doesn't make any sense. An extremely small framed person may have those measurements but they will not look broad compared to those of average frame size

its the proportions, not the absolute value, that counts.

ah alright I see. I thought it was a set value, such as

<40"=narrow
>48"=broad
40"<x<48"=normal

I guess I do have narrow shoulders then ..time to hit the weights lol

Right.

A person is considered broad shouldered when their shoulders are greater than 6" bigger than their chest. It is relative to the rest of your body. These two people may have the same shoulder measurement but only one would be considered broad shouldered. The other one is just.... broad.
