A Steaming Question

I'm EXTREMELY happy with my progress since discovering SF. A big thanks again for all of the advice and tips.

I've also found www.fitday.com to be a great tool. I want to see exactly what I consume in a typical month.

But back to the question... At the moment I'm boiling a huge quantity of vegetables every day. I've just been offered an electric steamer that was being chucked out. Am I really missing most of the nutritional value by boiling? Is steaming actually worth the extra effort, of should I simply continue as I am?

A typical day will see me boiling (all together in the same pot):

1 sweet potato
1 plantain
1 leak
1 onion
1 large carrot
Half a large broccoli
Handful of mushrooms

Here's my take:

Why are you eating the vegetables? To lose weight?

If so, are you taking a multivitamin each day (you should)? Yes? Then don't worry about it.

If you're eating vegetables to increase nutritional intake AND you can get the steamer for free/dirt-cheap, steam them.

To me, it's not worth the added money and effort. Spend the money saved on the steamer on a big bottle of multivitamins, which will benefit you in other ways.

Fixed that, ludeykrus and kwilk style.

Matter of fact, I'm eating boiled veggies while sipping a glass of whiskey. I chose both roads.

Alcohol is great at expanding the waistline. Hopefully, now I can pull a Homer and hit 300 lbs and file disability!

I'm confused about what you're asking. Steaming is barely any extra effort.

Thanks to all for the advice.

Cchen has a point. Just had a steaming session and found it's just as quick.

Regarding alcohol - I simply can't stand the stuff. I drank a quarter bottle of whisky (to see what it was like) when I was 15 years of age (so very long ago). Vomited violently, then collapsed in a heap. Haven't touched a millilitre of the stuff since. Even the smell of alcohol makes me feel nauseous - Yuk!

Mind you, in 2004, I consumed a piece of Christmas pudding that had been doused in brandy, then set alight. That could be how it all starts; the downward spiral into alcoholism, via pudding.
