Raw Denim

Thread Starter
After reading all of the information on this forum(the ones who created this forum are true geniuses in my book), I am out in search for a pair of jeans that have no distressing on them. Before I obtain a pair and save some time at it, can someone tell me who makes a pair that is relatively slim at the thighs and has a minimal bootcut, even a straight leg might be acceptable. A very dark indigo would be nice but also ones with some tinting, maybe grey or something. I don't however want the greenish tinting I seen on some pairs. Crosshatching would be a nice detail too. I plan to wear these jeans for quite a while so quality and durability is very important. As LA Guy mentioned prior, it is so true to look excellent in a suit or shirt/trouser combo. Style with streetwear/casualwear is a different beast altogether.

Try 5EP. They have both straight fit and bootcut, although the latter is more like a straight fit to me. They're somewhat slimmer than the Nudie Regular Ralfs. If you're in the UK I know of only two places that supply them, try www.hanon-shop.com, which is slightly cheaper. Sizes are limited, though. They retail for about 160 pounds in the UK. Expensive, even for a pair of selvage jeans, but excellent fabric and cutting.

APC is cheaper and great quality. www.apc.fr I think it is exactly what you're looking for. The Rescue jeans is a semi-bootcut selvage.

helmut lang's classic cut raw denim does it for me (basically a straight legged jean with some minor variables to the cut)totally non-distressed

Can't go wrong with any of the above suggestions - the only thing I would comment on is that 5EP jeans, while they're great, they do tend to fade with a greenish tint. Also, do not go without considering Nudie Regular Ralf Dry Selvage.

A pair of dark-wash Earnest Sewn Hutch or Filson jeans might also be up your alley. I think one of the Filson variants is a rigid selvage, which sounds close to what you'd like. Of course, the other suggestions are on the money too.

The APC Resucues, from what I've gathered, are a more relaxed fit. And the Helmut Lang classic cut are going to be tapered (the bootcut are actually a straight leg though). Aside from the cuts, all the above information is great. The quality of both Helmut Lang and APC are fantastic. Consult the Jeans Measurement thread for the APC Rescue fit. It's too bad Nudie has those atrocious back pockets. HL and APC are adornment free. Dan

Im looking for a pair of raw denim jean with a baggy fit. I know that a lot of the styles are based on the levis 501s which are bit to tight for my liking Which APCs have the baggiest fit?  Rescue or English Style and are they comparable to the 501s?

but the tapering on the helmut lang classic cut is so minimal you won't even notice it i measured my pairs today, and they're only a 1/2 inch difference from knee to bottom of the leg (9 inches wide at knee and 8 1/2 inches at the bottom of the leg) you really can't notice any tapering when you wear them

Try the Levis Vintage Clothing 1955s 501, it is a lot looser than the other 501 reproductions. Or try Denime's New WW2 jeans.

Thanks for your help.  Do you know of any sites that have Denime that ship to the U.S.?  Thats one of the reasons I was looking at APCs  I know they ship here and have heard good things about their site.  Do you think ordering a larger size in the APC english style jeans would be good for a baggy fit?

For the APC Anglaise, get one size down (eg, if you are a 33, get a 32) if you want a fairly relaxed fit.) Get your own size only if you like your jeans *really* quite baggy. APC waist sizes are usually pretty large for any given size.

Thanks LA Guy. Anglaise=English Style?

You'r describing the APC Standard or Unisex cut (same thing), definitely not the Rescue or the Anglaise, which are more baggy than you might expect, unless you are on the stocky side. Helmut Lang also makes a Classic Boot Cut, which is very subtle, almost a straight leg. But I think the APC denim is superior to Helmut Lang, and they are slightly cheaper as well.
