How do I sharpen my Gillete turbo razor blades(5)?

I don't see the point of buying new ones every 2 weeks or so. Has anyone here tried sharpen them manually, and if so, how did you do it and what were the results? Thanks.

I have seen an infomercial for some sort of rig that sharpens them up.

look into wet shaving with dual-edged blades, badger brush, and a quality soap. instead of spending $20 on a 4-pack you'll spend a few dollars for a hundred blades and you'll get a better shave.

I've been thinking of going the safety razor route but looks kind of dangerous, esp. on the hurry.

I don't mean an open razor. I dont think a safety razor is any more dangerous than a mach 3 or turbo. I'll admit it takes a bit longer to shave since you have to prepare the lather, but it really is a better shave that saves you money in the long run.

oh you will definitely definitely nick yourself more with a DE than with a cartridge, especially when just starting out. Youre not going to do any damage to yourself with a DE (assuming you dont take it to a vein anyhow), but you'll get the odd nick and cut here and there.

Those machines resemble more of a stropping motion than a sharpening motion. You'd probably be able to keep the cartridge for a week. Stropping isn't meant to sharpen. It's more to take out micro serrations than to really sharpen it. I'd imagine there's too much force against the razors. In any event, I wouldn't attempt to sharpen cartridges. Go to either a straight razor or double edge.

According to this guy you can lengthen the lifespan of your cartridge blades by keeping them submerged in mineral oil. "The reason it works so well is because razor wear is caused by corrosion, NOT use...I’m an every other day shaver and I used to go through blades about every ten days before they’d get coarse. Now I’ve been using the same blade for over two months. At a 10 day razor life, that’s about 37 razors a year, amounting to over $60 (a conservative, wholesale estimate). Multitplying razor life by just six amounts to using only six razors per year, which factors to about four bucks a year total for the expensive razors." Dunno if that's true, but might be worth a try.

This is definitely true.
