Check it out. I wouldn't say its as good as Karate Kid, but it's good fun. Somehow, it survives cultural gap. Like the best comedies, its got this underlying sadness.
I saw Kung Fu Hustle at its premiere at the Toronto film festival last year. It was very funny and very well done. Although bootleg DVD copies are available, it would best be seen in a theatre with a crowd, on a Friday night, after a couple of drinks.
Or if you live in the Seattle Area - you can just go rent the (R3) DVD at the worlds greatest video store, Scarecrow Video. If you don't happen to have a region free DVD player (there might be one in your computer) you could always rent or buy one from Scarecrow.
Same. Saw this on Friday. I am in love. The second Chinese film in a week that blew my mind. It was so fun, funny, sad, heart-warming, etc.. and the collectivist aspect of it was great too. Love the whole town.
