"In other news, it was discovered that red wine and chocolate can be good for you. The French Paradox has long baffled scientists, where people living in the South of France have a low instance of heart disease despite the high intake of fat in their diets. It was last year discovered that the skin of grapes, and by extension, red wine, contained a substance called Resveratrol, which acts as an anti-inflammatory."

It comes from the skin of grapes. I also saw a story on 60 minutes on a company trying create a FDA approved version resveratrol. They claim it to be fountain of youth and it could replace exercising and diet.

Has anybody heard of this?

Yes. It's old news and another of a long list of anti-oxidants responsible for further confusing causation and correlation.

I saw the 60 minute piece, and I don't recall them saying it will replace diet and exercise. The more interesting part of that same story was the discussion about long-term very low calorie diets procuceing similar reactions and results as the resveratol.

I eat a lot of grapes. Does that count? What are you trying to find out anyway? If someone is taking a resveratrol supplement, I'd be very skeptical if they said "I feel AMAZING ever since I started taking my resveratrol supplement!"

If you are looking for a supplement, I know of one. I can't speak to its effectiveness.

I did some more research. In the article, they state: "Asked how much red wine one would have to drink to get the kind of resveratrol they are using in their experimental pills, Sinclair says, "Well, the sad news is that you'd need to drink about 1,000 bottles a day of red wine, which I don't recommend."" According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resvera...ants_and_foods, there is .3-1.07mg of resv in 5oz of red wine. The Biotest supplement has 600mg of resv per serving. Seems like Biotest has beat them to the punch, although the FDA restrictions and requirements on drugs are infinitely more stringent than on supplements.

I've been taking the GNC type Resveratrol since the first article came out years ago. I'm planning to step up to a better version with more Trans- Resveratrol soon. If anyone has a good suggestion for a better brand, I'm interested.

I read an article that to get the same benefit as wine you would not be able to in pill form.

I take resveratol but it isn't the most important thing I take by any means.
