Super BowlXLIII - Page 6

Great game. Only whiners would mention the officiating and especially the potential helmet calls. If it's such a big deal why didn't Warner get one for taking his off when he argued the first overturned penalty call? Winners find a way to get it done.

Yes, that's why they took away the Rothlisberger touchdown on review. I think that was the correct call, but they easily could have decided there wasn't "indisputable video evidence".

Everyone on the winning team. Which was not the Cardinals. Just ask Crakavelli.

+1. The fact that nobody harping on the potential helmet calls has mentioned this is hilarious.

I agree, technically, but how often is that actually called? 0.23% of the time? Moot anyway. But I absolutely agree it was a big fail by the announcers not point in out (contrast with, say, the Leinart winning touchdown over Notre Dame a few years ago, where the announcers were all over the fact that Bush's helping him get over the line was technically a penalty but highly unlikely to be called in that situation.)

Unless they changed it it would have been a 10 yard penalty, but as was pointed out, it's never called.

Was a great game. The halftime show sucked though...

Jennifer Hudson lip-synched.

There's no doubt the Steelers were the more physical team, and won the game. Unfortunately, the officiating was not up up to the caliber of the game. It cheapens the Steelers victory and leaves a taint on an otherwise worthy team.

Even Bob Papa, the giants play-by-play guy and an NFL radio employee was less than approving of the officials this morning.

I watch the NFL less and less because it seems to be turning into the NBA which itself is but one step above the WWF. Once you lose the integrity of the game, it's all over.

Sure its not called, but the SB crew is made up of the guys in the top 3 at their officiating position. You would think that one of them would have gotten it. At least three would have had a clear view.

I don't know what happened to Al Michaels, but he too often trys to play football lawyer or talmudic scholar or something and he argues football rules and gets them really, really wrong. Madden missing it was what really surprised me.

There's a difference in pointing out that the officiating was bad and in claiming the game was handed to the Steelers. I've played sports and coached sports long enough to know that the better team more often than not can overcome outside factors such as officiating.

To your point, I think whining about officiating taints both the Steelers' victory and the accomplishment of Arizona in not only getting to the SB, but proving they weren't a fluke.

Fitzgerald is an amazing receiver, but had a brain fart on the Harrison runback at the end of the first half. If Fitzgerald bumps Harrison out of bounds instead of trying to strip the ball, the half ends with the Steelers up 10-7.

Fitz wasn't trying to strip the ball, he was blocked by his own teammate (Mike Gandy) who was also trying to make the tackle. Fitz had to go around Gandy and by the time he was able to make the hit, Harrison was at the endzone.

not a good game for gandy. 3 holds and the aforementioned "getting in the way".

I don't know, he was protecting Warner's blind side against the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Sure he had 3-holds but he also gave Warner time to complete 31 or 43 attempts for 377 yards.

How? Unless you are talking earlier on the runback Fitz was on the outside of Harrison. He was actually out of bounds when he tried to tackle him.
