Agreed. Linking a couple of bong hits at a party to cheating in the Olympics is more than just a stretch. It's surprising how many times I've heard this over the last couple of days.

Phelps loses Kellogg as a sponsor. That was one pricey hit.

As to drugs: Honestly, I know these guys are tested all the time, but I would not be at all surprised if Phelps were on HGH, or at least had been through some of his teen years. Just look at that freaked out face.

It's not an accusation, per se... just saying I wouldn't be amongst the people shocked if something ever came out.

people are really making a big deal of this, besides on the internet and tv, everyone in my night classes are talking about it. I don't know why people are so captivated by this, I don't recall hearing this much gossip when Cheney was liquored up and blasted someone with a shotgun.
The guys 23 years old and just had a major accomplishment, a little celebrating is called for, no?

I am a college swimmer who has never smoked once, but it is totally stupid that the media benefits from something so minor. Apparently its not even an updated picture... its from months maybe years ago. He lost sponsors and got suspended from USS Swimming. I definitely thought it was worse when he had the DUI. sheesh.

well appretnly he was just baned from competiton for 3 months for the occurence. after the shit other athletes get awya with asn still allowed to play, this seems extreme.

He got a DUI? And this is getting more attention and getting sponsors dropped? People's priorities are unbelievably out of order if they are getting offended by him smoking and not him getting a DUI. Ridiculous.

I definitely don't think this incident should affect his career. He really is one of the greatest athletes of all time, and doing marijuana one time should not affect his ability and if he did do it a hundred times before, it obviously didn't affect him.

However, as a role model, I don't know if this is the worst thing that could happen. It was already mentioned that he's had a DUI before, and he's not the only one. Everybody is going to mess up some time in their life, and Phelps is just another one of those people. He's not some idol who just swims all day, every day. He has a life too, and if he publicly stated that he wouldn't make another mistake like this again, he should be given the benefit of the doubt.

Phelps always came across to me as your typical douchebag, from the moment i saw his sideways lacoste hat. this just serves to reaffirm that.

actually the modern ethic that one can see from intnent use would clearly show evidence of the social soppurt of doing just that even when the law is nto stupid just incovinient.
